Why? How do you feel about it? I have been banned on 2 Conservative Reddit boards, and been spoken to harshly on Fox. It kind of bothers me because I try hard to be civil. But sometimes you read things that make you crazy, and then in my case, too direct. Actually I think trumpy folks need to hear pointed condemnation occasionally.
Do you feel guilty about being banned?
I was banned from a Hawaiian remote viewing board when I asked questions about their testing procedures. Never before had I heard “Aloha” said in such a way as to remind me of the Southern expression “Bless your heart!”.
I am a moderator on a dog sled racing forum… I wrote the rules for the site.
I once had to ban, for 24 hours, myself. It was a bad case of my team winning formidably and a present of Slivovitz put me over the edge… I was blasted. Thankfully the next day I un-banded myself.
Are you just talking about message boards? Or stores, bars, whatever?
I was excommunicated by the Catholic Church. Does that count?
Originally I just meant message boards, but what the heck. With answers like the ones so far, lets just leave it unlimited.
Sled dog racing boards? Hawaiian remote viewing? What else have we been thrown out of/ barred from/excommunicated from and why? Confess!
The only board I go to regularly is this one, so no on that count. I nearly got thrown out of the DMV once, as I made a rude comment about how long it took to wait in line. The problem was the office head, and once he was replaced the issue was fixed. But it was a local scandal for a while, as it could literally take several hours. I was not the only one in a really bad mood.
Forgot, I do run a DP on the Giraffe board
About 15 years ago I got banned from eBay - not my fault. My wife did something against the rules, and they just blanket banned everyone at the same address.I didn’t really care, as that was when eBay was transitioning from the Internet’s garage sale to scammer central. The part that sucked was I also got banned from PayPal when they were pretty much the only game in town (that was when eBay owned PayPal). Fortunately, there are lots of payment alternatives now.
The only thing I’ve been banned from is asking my wife if I can be excused from attending Easter services in any given year.
Canada. 25 years ago I got a DUI, and they are still holding it against me.
I got banned from a message board similar to the SDMB 20 years ago for making an off-color joke about then recent Pakistani-Indian saber-rattling involving nuclear weapons, it was basically “So if this war turns nuclear, does this mean Jerry from Comcast Customer Service will actually be a Jerry?”
I got banned for “Racism” but I still don’t think the joke is that offensive even 20 years later.
When I lived in California Ocean Beach. Went to a salon to get my hair cut. Lady sees my shakey hands and asks me if I’m on drugs. I explained to her my shakey hands were a nerve disorder I was born with.
At first, she was okay with it. As she was puting the drape around me, she takes one look at me in the mirror and says: “Yeah I don’t believe you. Get out of my shop and don’t ever come back!”
I suppose I should have been offended but it was so over the top, I couldn’t help but to laugh.
Years and years ago I got banned from the Blazing Squad messageboard for suggesting that maybe having six inches of flashing gifs in your signature block, particularly when most posts were barely longer than “lol”, was counterproductive.
Admittedly I was there for light trolling in the first place (I mean, Blazing Squad was a terrible group clearly thrown together from a bunch of barely-talented wannabes for entirely commercial purposes) so I don’t blame them but still, it was a funny thing to get banned for.
I have a vacation house in the wilds of Pennsyltucky, and joined a few Facebook groups to learn about what is happening in and around the area.
Eventually, they turned into RWNJ central, to the point where the local board is festooned with anti-trans memes, Let’s Go Brandon memes, CRT memes, along with how the school librarian is a pedophile trying to groom the entire school.
After getting banned from there, I joined the local “liberal activist” page where I don’t feel the need to argue constantly, and I still hear about the occasional special event.
I’ve almost survived everywhere I’ve been to without so much as a warning. I did get warned, once, for posting to a popular sub several times in a few minutes because I thought my post didn’t go through, but that’s as close as I’ve gotten.
I also got banned on a Conservative forum.
Well, sort of. The forum had a feature that the OP of a thread could ban people from that thread, both new and existing threads. So very quickly it got to the point where I couldn’t post in any threads, even threads that were explicitly about me.
I never insulted anyone or engaged in any other bad behaviour. I knew a banning would be likely when I questioned things like the “stolen” election, and I didn’t want to give them an excuse. But it didn’t matter.
It was a bit frustrating because I do feel I may have got to one or two people before it was realized how “dangerous” I was. I even recommended they join the straight dope
I was banned from Free Speech America for some offense that is not worth the effort to recall.
I got a one week ban from SDMB for touching the third rail - that of which I dare not speak.
I was banned on a 9/11 “Truther” forum many years ago. They didn’t appreciate my pointing out that people who call themselves “Truthers” probably shouldn’t lie quite so much.
Never been banned from anywhere thus far, but I’m sure if I posted in any right-wing or conspiracy prone reddit subs I wouldn’t last long.
I was booted off a Facebook page for changing my profile picture from my face to a bumper sticker reading “Any functioning adult 2020.”
They told me it was “too political.” I told them it didn’t mention any names or even any parties, so how could it be? They banned me for a month. I told them where they could put their ban hammer (sideways) and left the group.
