I just won an Xbox in a recent Taco Bell giveaway. My wife was planning on buying a DVD player for me as a Christmas gift. Do I still need the DVD player or does the $29.99 adapter for the Xbox work just as well?
Thanks for the info

It should work just as well, except that you need to buy separate adapter packs if you need component video or HDTV compatibility. However, if you want to connect the system to your TV’s or VCR’s composite A/V ports, you’re all set with the $30 DVD kit.
With this adapter, does the Xbox play audio CD’s, CD-Rw’s and such?
I know it will play audio CDs, and will even let you play your own background music in certain games. As to whether or not it will accept CD-R’s and CD-RW’s, I don’t know. You might want to try Microsoft’s Xbox site, which is where I’m getting this info. You might have to email someone there to get an answer on recordable media.
