I was wondering about the real social impact of Barker’s closing reminder to spay and neuter pets.
Have you spayed or neutered your pets? If so, was your action influenced in any way by Barker? Or did he increase your awareness?

I don’t think he raised my awareness any or actually influenced me, although I certainly heard him say “spay or neuter your pet” at the end of every Price is Right. Maybe he got to me subconciously, as my dog is spayed.
But his foundation has definitely given money to provide for low cost spay/neuter clinics. So he’s put his money where his mouth is.
Interesting question. Personally, my pets are all fixed, but I don’t think Bob Barker had much to do with that. It just seemed logical to get them spayed/neutered since
I’ve always felt bad about how many homeless pets end up getting put to sleep in shelters.
However, I definitely am glad that he tries to get the message out to people. I cringed when I recently found out a friend’s cat just gave birth to some kittens. :smack: I never thought he would let something like that happen. I am very tempted to bring up the topic of getting the cat spayed, but it’s hard to talk to a friend about such an issue without sounding like you’re being a jerk (particularly since I suspect that he may not have gotten her spayed because he doesn’t have much money to spare).
I remember hearing him say that when I was just a kid, and it was the first time I had heard the term.
“Mommy, what is neutering and how do I neuter Chopsticks?”
Right there the meaning of it was learned. So I guess you could say he did have an impact on my life.
Nope. No influence on me. I’ve worked with animals all of my adult life and Bob had nothing to do with it. I wasn’t even aware he gave the spay or neuter spiel until after I chose my career path.
Also nope. I think he’s done some good work in vavor of the little furry people. But I already knew I should get my kitties fixed. And I guess, not eat them.
