Feng Shui is all the rage these days. Has it ever actually ended up seeming to cause significant effects for you? Other than a clean or differently arranged house, has it helped you get a job, find that snuggle-bunny, or improve your health, in your opinion? I’m skeptical, since I’ve heard of people doing it, but never of it working for them. Anyone here have such an experience?
Please no “Feng shui is crap” replies, I’ve heard those in spades and I’m curious if I can find one from the other side.
Also, no replying to people if they say it has worked for them with “it’s all in your head…blah blah blah”. This is opinion, not fact or debate.
And if it did work, this would also be opinion, unless you’re willing to accept the highly dubious correlation between nonsensical superstition and fortunate events in that person’s life at face value.
The best I can say it’s done for me is give me more floor space. Although things have been looking up for me as of late, I hardly think the location of my sleeper sofa has much to do with it.
My sister swears by it, but personally I’m not seeing the rewards that she might be reaping. I do believe in karma though – or at least – I believe that if you do the right thing by other people and go the extra mile occasionally, that good things will happen to you also. I won’t speculate on why
Feng Shui - I’m going to try not to say “this is crap”. The most it will really do for you is give you more space, as Lord Ashtar says, and make your house look a little more decorative. As well as probably keep you neater, if you’re trying to keep all that stuff in its proper place then you’ll have to stay clean.
However, I see no difference between feng shui and decorating your house in a way that pleases you and that is easy to work in/around.
sigh Obviuously. This is why I started this thread. I’ve never actually heard a person say, “Wow, since fen shui-ing I really HAVE noticed various areas of my life getting better!”
I’ve heard plenty of the others.
But why is it such a rage when no one ever gets “results”?
I don’t practice it, because I cannot find one source that seem to be authoritative. Jeebus knows I wouldn’t know which “expert” to follow.
It also seems damned complicated and where do kids come in? My house is cluttered with their stuff! Should I lose them, as well as the clutter?
Tell us what impact it has on you-maybe you’ll get converts!
Oh, I have no plan to try something that needlessly complicated. I’m curious for curiousity’s sake. Mainly because while I know people who swear astrology works, and tarot cards are the bees knees, I’ve never heard anyone say, “Feng Shui worked for me!”
I used Feng Shui principles when decorating and arranging my living room. Basically, I feel more relaxed and serene when I’m in that room. Yes, it’s possible to achieve that result without using Feng Shui but simply good design, but I’m pleased. I wasn’t specifically trying to better any particular part of my life, I just wanted to feel more comfortable and less anxious and the design elements appeal to me. And Feng Shui need not be complicated. It’s not necessary (or even possible) to take every suggestion.
A good book for some general information is The Practical Encyclopedia of Feng Shui by Gill Hale. Beautiful pictures, simple explanations.
