Has it ever occurred to you how insane elementary school gym class was?

Still amazes me. But that chapter of her (and my) life is over.

And thanks, velomont.

My experience:

3 years of PE in grade school. The district only required it for 7th and 8th grade but since I was in one of two 6th grade classes located in the same school as the 7th and 8th graders, I got an extra year. The unofficial term at the time for a 7-8th grade school was “Junior High” and that was new. No concept of “Middle School”.

1.5 years of PE in high school. (The other .5 year was Health.)

4 quarters were required in college. Since they had a lot of older students, those over 25 were exempted from taking PE. I took soccer, handball, gymnastics and swimming. One of the classes my brother took was Fly Fishing. For PE. Nothing outdoors. A lot of fly tying and such. For PE.

The soccer class used the local stadium which is now home to an MLS team. I presume they upgraded the artificial turf. In my class, you had to loft the ball to get it to go anywhere when the turf was wet. (Which was basically all the time.) If you tried a hard kick along the ground it was “ouch” time.
