Anybody know if Jason Mewes (Jay from the ‘Clerks’ movies) has shown up? Last I heard he’d gone he’d gone missing,not showing up for appearances for Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and probation hearings and nobody knew where he’d gone. I can’t find any updates anywhere like E-Online, etc.
I’d try checking out the View Askew site. They have a message board that Kevin Smith posts updates to every so often. (Mewes has been known to pop in a few times himself.) Tread lightly and do a full search before jumping in and asking. They tend to be rough on newbies asking redundant questions.
Be warned: their messageboard puts the “suck” in “this board sucks.” It’s awful. I did a search on Jason Mewes and didn’t find anything relevant.
Yeah, the “View Askew” board sucks. I tried that myself and didn’t see any mention.
According to the March 6, 2002 “View Askew Newsbites”, he’s scheduled to be the guest of honor at the Notre Dame battle of the bands. (No mention of when that’s supposed to actually be.)
Eerily enough, in the director’s commentary to Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, Kevin Smith makes a joke to Jason Mewes about he’ll disappear some day and never be seen again.
I’d venture a guess that this story is bogus.
The E! Online Story uses The Smoking Gun as its source, and here is a quote from NewsAskew from its August 31, 2001 update:
“Well, as some of you may or may not know, Jason Mewes was the subject of a report from a website called The Smoking Gun, where they basically do all they can to humiliate celebrities by digging up as much dirt on them as possible. In this case, the site printed a report stemming from events that happened YEARS ago, yet for some reason felt that right now was the time to report on it.”

I’d bet that E! Online just found the article and decided to write a story, because I check NewsAskew and the ViewAskew message board just about every day and there was nary a mention of Jay getting into anything around that time. I wish I had more to back this up, but I wouldn’t worry. Jay has made a number of public appearances in the last few months.
I think Newsaskew became an official part of ViewAskew a year or two ago. They also have a policy of not gossiping about the personal lives of the ViewAskew people. Combine those two, and I don’t think they’re the best source for information on this.
Nothing to add about the whereabouts of Jay, but did anyone else catch why the police pulled him over? They noticed that the car he was driving had its airbag deployed.

Holden, I think the incident being referred to is the 12/14/01 warrant issued for Mewes since he failed to show for a court hearing.

I don’t see why NewsAskew is so pissed off at TSG. Everything they publish is public information, and even still they blur our phone numbers, addresses, etc. if they could be used to harass people.
