Has the board turned into a bigot magnet?

This is KCRP FM on 102.8, coming up right after the break we’ve got Bigot Magnet straight into the chart at number three with their new release “You like me, you really like me”

It’s not just the SDMB. USA Today just published a poll which found that “Americans have become significantly less accepting of homosexuality since a Supreme Court decision that was hailed as clearing the way for new gay civil rights…After several years of growing tolerance, the survey shows a return to a level of more traditional attitudes last seen in the mid-1990s.”

More gay rights stories in the news means more awareness which unfortunately brings out the bigots.

Poll shows backlash on gay issues.

However a more recent USA Today article suggests that the backlash is only temporary, while the slow, steady increase in acceptance continues.

Is homosexual backlash a permanent trend or mere ‘blip’?

I see a blip on the SDMB, not a permanent trend.

I really hope that is true.

I think it is. If you look at other civil rights movements, you see an expansion of civil rights, followed by a temporary backlash, as society absorbs the change. For example, the feminist movement led to a lot of gains for women in the late 60s and early 70s, then there was a backlash in the late 70s and early 80s with things like the defeat of the ERA. Blacks saw massive civil rights advances in the 50s and 60s, which was followed by white flight, for example, in the 70s.

I don’t think that there’s necessarily an insulting tone to Gay lifestyle, although in hindsight I can’t recall ever using the term. Suppose I might have though. Actually, Anti-Gay threads were one of the reasons I left the SDMB for so long.

FTR, and I know this has nothing to do with anything significant, but everyone who has issues with Gays is not necessarily a Christian, nor is that view necessarily a mainstream Christian view.

While we’re cutting down the anti-gays, how about a little less fuck the mouth breathing bible thumpers while we’re at it? It;s not Jesus’ fault they don’t like gays, ok? Hell, I’m a Christian and I’d screw GoBear if I weren’t married.

Ok, I’ve hijacked MB enough. I’ve also, probably had enough to drink tonight. The truth of the matter is that there will never be a shortage of assholes at the SDMB, they’ll just change colors occassionally. None of them stick around too long though  The truth can be ugly.

Is it wrong of me that I heard all of that being delivered by the comedian Lewis Black?

Also, I’d like to point out that the term “gay lifestyle”, while often abused by bigots of all stripes and probably rather inaccurate, is certainly not a phrase which should automatically get someone slapped as a bigot. Everything must be taken in context. If they had walked in and called homosexuals “perverts” instead, thats a word with a very solid negative connotation. “Lifestyle” is not.

I wonder if many of the same people who are so vociferous in their opposition to any sort of specific rights for gays and lesbians stand as firmly behind their “principles” when it comes to profiting from the (generally) vast spending power of this huge DINK (as in double income no kids) target market. Hey… wait a minute… do ya think maybe that’s the real reason for opposition to gay adoptions? I can see it now “legalization of gay adoptions has devastating effect on the advertising executive lifestyle”.

BTW, I also think Bigot Magnet would make a great name for a rock band and their breakout CD could be The Lurking Trolls of Summer featuring the #1 hit, You Like Me, You Really Like Me.

Nah, is it wrong for me to wait until GoBear says I’m sexy?

Your too sexy for your pants, too sexy for your pants…

You’re

I meant You’re too sexy for your pants.

calls up the Grammar Nazis

Cancel the strike on Mockingbird. Over.

You’re too sexy for proper punctuation … too sexy for proper punctuation … so sexy you’re headed for damnation because of GWB’s administration.

[sub]Doesn’t scan, I know. I’d say “blow me” but I think I’ll stick with the safer “sue me”. No lawyers in this group, IIRC:D[/sub]

Pfft.

So many would go to the chalk chambers before me.

It isn’t grammar anyway—it’s punctuation. We Real English Nazis [sup]TM[/sup] know the difference!

[sub]Yes, I did go change that to a “we” from “us” … why do you ask?:)[/sub]

Okay… now I am afraid of the Blood Pudding Chambers.
SAAVE ME!

It isn’t Blood Pudding Chambers that should worry you. It’s the faggot-making machine:D

I’m already a faggot.

Or are you going to make one JUST FOR ME?!?

“Bigot Magnet.” Hmm. Well, it might wake the DJs up.

How about “the fat lifestyle,” can we say that with impunity?

No. But you can tell us what it is like to be a complete asshole.

Complete with the body condom-esque wrapping around it.

Cicada, rather than trying to group a bunch of people with the word “lifestyle”, why not examine them as individuals?
