My error. I probably watched it on a b&w set.
I saw a few original Mouse Club episodes but don’t remember them. The ones I do recall were from the 60s reruns.
I remember watching some of the original MMC on broadcast TV during the same period. I’m guessing the syndicated version on WGN.
Disney Channel was good before they started all that teen angst crap.
I remember it from the 1980’s on Disney channel, but I can’t commit to if it was the original or a re-make new one.
I recall friend’s kids watching videotapes of DTV from Disney World that preceded any appearance of the Disney Channel on cable that I saw anywhere. Disney must have seen this would be a clear winner but I realized then older material like the original Mouse Club would seem dull to them. Not sure when the new version started but the original was already looking old by the mid 60s. Annette’s bra may have been big news in the 50s but we’d seen grown up Annette in bikini movies by that time and she was hardly the sex appeal in those movies. Time moved fast in those days, the whole world changed in the rambling time frame of the 60s. Old Walt was a smart guy, he knew TV was the path to kid’s hearts and minds.
Now that made me laugh! Forgotten words of wisdom from Ollie, the ranch hand. Thanks for the memory!
In the 90s, I remember there being a program block involving the Disney Vault that showed old episodes. It aired fairly late at night, likely to fill time. I remember episodes of Zorro and the Mickey Mouse Club, both in black and white.
Edit: Apparently it was called Vault Disney and aired from 1997-2002:
If it was the original it would have been B & W. I remember watching them as a kid when I was too young to understand they were reruns (early 70s).
I saw them in the '50s, and even back then they reran the shows over and over and over. Annette was my first crush. Even at 7 I knew there was some reason I liked her, but didn’t know why.
This is why I maintain I’m not a boomer. (born 1961) ![]()
I’ve never seen an episode. Sure, I’ve seen parodies, and maybe a clip here or there, including the theme songs, but never and entire episode. I have no idea what the fuss was about.
I fear I missed something.
C you real soon!
Y?
Yes, some shows switched to or were filmed in color from the beginning before September 1966 (I remember the announcement “CBS presents the following program in color” before episodes of Hogan’s Heroes, Green Acres, and My Three Sons by 1965, the year I was in fifth grade.) But after that, everything was in color.
NBC was the first network to go all color before 1966. They wanted to promote sales of RCA color TV sets because they owned that company as well. (This was one reason they agreed to partially fund Star Trek, especially the series’ two full-color pilots.)
Irene “Granny” Ryan was quoted as saying the switch to color would make The Beverly Hillbillies more popular than ever. Vic “Sgt Saunders” Morrow, on the other hand, was against it, saying that WWII was filmed in B&W and Combat! should remain that way.
I was reading this thread with a vague memory of having watched MMC in the 70s once or twice, but wasn’t remembering any details.
…then I read your comment and instantly found myself humming the “Triple-R Song”.
I guess I must have watched more than I thought I did.
For those so inclined, it can be found in all its glory at this YouTube link:

I was just listening to it and my wife called from the other room, “What on earth are you listening to?”
I was always one to play my records over and over and over again. This must have driven my mom and dad crazy.
There were originally four segments. A kids’ news program (rather more in the style of an old newsreel than TV news), the Mouseketeers segment, a serial, and a vintage cartoon. And the Mouseketeers had a five-way rotation, Monday through Friday: “Fun With Music”, “Guest Star Day”, “Anything Can Happen Day”, "Circus Day”, and “Talent Round-Up Day”.
Hee! To this day I sing “Today is Tuesday, you know what that means . . . we’re gonna have a special guest”
If I hear someone singing, humming, whistling, or playing the theme song I’ll
throw out “Donald Duck” at the appropriate points. I used to be able to do something recognizable as his voice but I can’t get that out right anymore so I just say it now.
For my brother, it was “I’m 'Enery VIII I Am” by 'ermans 'ermits. It may explain the rift they had for decades!
I remember watching TMMC in the TV lounges at the University of Minnesota in the early '70s. It was funny to see my fellow Baby-Boomers flock around the sets whenever it came on.

“Today is a day that is filled with surprises! Nobody knows what’s gonna happen!”
My second-favorite day, after “Talent Round-Up Day”* — 'cuz, y’now, Friday (yes, I’m old enough to have seen MMC during its original run).
* Here’s your hat, here’s your ears, you’re an honorary … Mouseketeer!
Did anyone else sign up to be a Mouseketeer, or had your parents sign you up? I got a certificate and everything.
