Has there been a movie where the title was not mentioned during the movie?

I was taking a shower last night and this random thought popped in my head. Has there ever been a movie where the movie title was not mentioned at all during the movie?

Do you mean the title is never shown in the movie itself, or that the title is never mentioned in the dialogue?

Does any character say the words “gone with the wind” during the film? I know that they occur in the novel.

Sure! The film adaptation of “Pride & Prejudice” doesn’t include all of the narration that the novel does, and in dropping that excess narration, they also cut out the paragraph or two where Austen actually uses both words from the title. On preview, I bet this has happened in lots of books-turned-movies.

Also, nobody in the movie “Jaws” has that word anywhere in their dialogue.

I think it happens a lot. I don’t think anybody says “star wars” in any of the movies. Nobody says “toy story” in that movie, either. I think the list could go on.

I had the titular line in Star Wars. I walked by in the background and said, “I’m so tired of all these Star Wars.”

I can’t believe I’m the first person to come up with “Snakes on a Plane”.

It’d be a pretty long list. The list of movies where the title is mentioned would be much shorter. In fact, my sister once told me that among her movie-mad college buddies, there was a standing rule that you had to applaud when the title was mentioned.

Well, Samuel L. Jackson did come close to saying that.

How about “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari”?

Or “Silent Movie”?

I was only half-paying attention but I think Tears of the Sun wasn’t mentioned anywhere in it. Actually, I still can’t fathom what if anything the title has to do with the movie.

That’s because it was actually a chiffarobe.

I can’t find it right now, but if I recall correctly, Roger Ebert once said that the mark of a bad movie is that the title IS uttered in the dialogue.

I don’t think James Bond ever said “Diamonds are Forever” or “You only live twice” or “Live and let die.”

Very few titles are quoted verbatim in the movie. The exceptions are movies where the title is a proper noun central to the story, like “Ghandi” or “Godzilla.”

“Pulp Fictoin” and “Reservoir Dogs” aren’t mentioned. “Cruel Intentions” and “Dangerous Liaisons.” “Edge of Seventeen.” “Affliction.” I’m not sure the “Devil’s Advocate” is either. “Dog Day Afternoon.”

2001: A Space Odyssey.

Unless Moonwatcher grunted it, that is.

How about Citizen Kane?

In our house, one drinks when the title is said in the dialogue.

Raiders of the Lost Ark

The World According to Garp

One of the villains said “You only live twice, Mr. Bond” in that film. Most- if not all- of the Bond films have the title either written or spoken in the film.
