He cares what people think because of its impact on what he wants to do, but not in the context of hurt feelings or personal offense or a desire for approval.
:dubious: You’re second-guessing the PR acumen of “genius” Donald Trump? You just got finished telling us why his petty public squabbles are a deliberate strategy to “play to his supporters” and keep “the opposition from gaining the upper hand”, and now you’re suggesting it would have been “better” for him to do something else?
If Trump supporters don’t like crassness, vulgarity and pussy talk, they made a pretty poor choice of candidate.
Truly he is a God among men, lacking any of the personal flaws that plague other humans. No vanity, no pride, nothing but humility and the milk of human kindness.
The point is that he consistently comes across as someone strongly affected by what people think “in the context of hurt feelings or personal offense or a desire for approval”. Anybody who judges his motivations based on his behavior patterns would naturally infer that he’s childishly vain and thin-skinned.
You, on the other hand, appear to have decided, based on the fact that Trump isn’t uniformly stupid and won a Presidential election, that he can’t really be childishly vain and thin-skinned. He must be merely assuming that unimpressive persona for some unfathomable strategic purpose.
What I can’t figure out is, if you are so convinced that Trump’s petty huffing and flouncing are just an act in service of some brilliant strategy, why do you keep undermining that strategy by repeatedly assuring us that the petty huffing and flouncing are all an act?
Geez, Starving Artist, the President for his own inscrutably genius reasons obviously wants people to believe that he’s a shallow, oversensitive narcissist, and you keep blowing his cover! What are you, some kind of traitor to Trump?
FWIW, the latest tweet by Trump: “Peaceful protests are a hallmark of our democracy. Even if I don’t always agree, I recognize the rights of people to express their views.”
Fortunately his behavior was spoken in private and once it became public it inspired people not to adopt it, while lefties on the other hand are screeching in public about pussy pleasure and sending their children out to hold up signs saying “FUCK TRUMP”.
What is it with lefties and nasty public behavior anyway? They’re all about crude, vulgar language in music and movies and public utterances, and if you want to piss in public, or have naked bicycle parades, (San Fran both) or stalk around in the nude (legal in NYC) or otherwise bring us one more step closer to living like animals, liberals seem to be all for it. And of course fifty years of liberalism has resulted in a populace that dresses like shit, looks like shit, talks like shit and acts like shit. Why is that, one wonders? For that matter, where is Meryl Streep’s concern for beauty and art when she looks out at the cesspool of what daily life in America is becoming, all at the behest of her ideological brethren?
(And to head off the inevitable pointing out of my own use of the ‘s-word’, bear in mind that my comments are spoken within message board confines and in the presence of adults.)
For a less snarky response, Starving Artist, I’m continually mystified by your criticism of the present. In the 50s, I’d be arrested because I was married to the wrong race. That seems, literally, infinitely worse than anything negative you described in that post. And that was just a small part of the bad parts about America before the 60s. There are problems today, but the ones you describe are just so pathetic (seriously? public crassness?) compared to the problems (dude, I’D HAVE BEEN ARRESTED FOR FUCKING BEING WITH THE GODDAMN LOVE OF MY LIFE!) from back then.
:dubious: Considering all the right-wing embrace of nasty public behavior like displaying anti-Obama slogans saying “Don’t Re-Nig in 2012”, not to mention common right-wing rhetoric about “cucks” and “faggots” and “kikes” etc., I think you should be careful how you throw those stones.
Let’s see how Trump is being viewed from around the world.
From the Chinese English News agency, Xinhau…
T*rump’s 1st full day in office: intelligence, media, mass protests
01-22 19:05
It seems surreal but in fact real: U.S. President Donald Trump spends his 1st full day in office denying his feud with the CIA, ignoring the massive protests against him, and blasting the media over lessening his inaugural crowd. *
From Aljazzera…
*Women’s March on Washington draws massive crowds
Hundreds of thousands march in US capital as solidarity protests take place in cities across Europe, Asia and Africa…
“We are here to protest the hate and the division that Donald Trump puts forward as politics,”
…
*
From BBC
*On Saturday the president had condemned media reporting of the number of people attending his inauguration.
White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus said there was “an obsession… to de-legitimise this president. We’re not going to sit around and take it.”
But photos show more people attended the inauguration of Mr Trump’s predecessor Barack Obama in 2009.
In France, France 24
Just one day after President Donald Trump took office, more than a million took to the streets Saturday in Washington and around the world to “inaugurate the resistance” – as many placards put it.
There are just a few examples of how the world is viewing America. I want to thank these women for showing to the world that we all aren’t delusional puppets of the Republican maniac.
Yes, I said his petty squabbling was designed to play to his supporters and keep the opposition from gaining the upper hand. Where in there did I say he couldn’t have said something even more effective?
The difference, as I alluded to just above, is how when such behavior takes place. Trump said what he said in private and it was never intended for the public. It’s hilarious to me to see people on the left whinging about Trump’s vulgarity when they are directly responsible for the fact that we now have utter (and misogynistic, but that doesn’t count because race) filth in music and on tv and in the movies, and magazines like Cosmopolitan on display proudly proclaiming for all to see how to best give blow jobs.
