Has Warehouse 13 jumped the shark?

You see, and that’s exactly my discomfort, she is so much of a knock off of a character or possibly an amalgum of quirky home-base characters on so many other programs that in my mind, at least, she seems predictably derivative.

I agree with Green Bean in his assessment of the writers underappreciating the potential content (and thus the potential story lines) in the warehouse.

I must say that early on I got a kick out of the mini-tangents that were placed in the show as almost throwaways (Houdini’s wallet trying to escape and the super football). I enjoy the occasional throwaway in a series or film. It’s fun.

And I tend to disagree with you Skara_Brae on Saul Rubinek’s need to interact with people. I like his character as this out-of-touch, Merlinesque character living in his own little world venturing out only when absolutely necessary.

It hasn’t jumped the shark, as said, I think it’s too early for that yet, I just feel it’s really uneven and unfocused right now.

What’s good:

The banter between the two leads.

Saul Rubinek.

The overall quirkiness and look.

The premise.

And that’s about it for me. I was intrigued to see where they were gonna take the “hacker” mystery, until they resolved it so fast, and DING! we have a new and trite (and mildly annoying) character, who’s not so much a wiz-kid as she can do magic. With technology.

It certainly needs a broader, more epic story arc. At least to hold together the ‘artifact of the week’ pattern. I like how Fringe panned out in its first season. While it was a ‘mystery of the week’ show, all of it lead to a much bigger picture, and primed the second season for upping the ante. I can’t see that happening with W13. At least hint there’s a Warehouse 12 or something? Open it up, and tie it together.

I’m still watching though. And I’m still waiting to see what happens with that football.

I want Friday the 13th: the Series back. :stuck_out_tongue:

Concur. If it goes all crappy at this point, it would have simply peted out.

Another problem with the show (aside from the aggressive blandness of the two agents) is the mundane nature of the “artifacts”, the Wish/Ferret granting kettle in the pilot was amusing, but all of the other artifacts thus far have been, well, meh…

Aside from the Native American Phasing Cloak thingy, that was pretty cool, they need to have more offbeat or humorous artifacts, kinda like you can find in Warehouse 23 (which I believe was at least a partial inspiration for W13 (specifically the Ferret Kettle)

They need to find a fully functional old school AD&D Wand of Wonder…

I think the latest episode opened up a lot of avenues for future sotry arcs. You’ve got at least one ex Warehouse agent floating around who is not bestest friends with the organization and you’ve got a rival group using similar technology towards similar (if perhaps more nefarious) ends. Either of those could grow into something else.

Say what? I missed that…

I hate the two leads. They are both more boring than vanilla wafers. The warehouse people are OK. I like the new girl except that she’s a solve everything genius with no motive other than to show how smart she is.

Frankly, I think SyFy is trying very hard to replace Stargate, but without Richard Dean Anderson or the equivalent they are screwed. I think they should have given Flash Gordan a little more time to work itself in. I don’t think these types of shows do will until their third season plays out. Warehouse 13 is so far pretty dull. No shark would bother swimming under those skiis.

The future cast traveled back in time to try and fix it before it was cancelled. Tampering with time will likely cause a temperal bubble of Gilligan’s Island reruns.

It was in the preview for next week’s episode, IIRC.

I don’t find it derivative or cliched, but then again I’ve never watched X-files, Buffy, Stargate, Smallville, Lost, or anything else, really. I think there’s lots of directions they can still go, plotwise; I just hope they stick with the resolved in an hour, good guys always win format, because it’s fun and relaxing.

[minirant]I hate shows that pour on the DRAMA!!one11!! with repulsive characters and Issues of the Week (breastcancerinfidelityunrequitedlovebetrayalmurderabandomentsex give me a freaking break - my husband likes Nip/Tuck, it makes me want to throw a brick through the screen); I’m okay with a little conflict but the reason I don’t watch much television or see many movies is because I get impatient waiting for them to get off the personal drama and get back to the damn story.[/minrant]
