Per Google: To cherry-pick means to selectively choose only the most desirable, beneficial, or convenient items, people, or pieces of evidence from a larger group while ignoring the rest.
What evidence am I ignoring? Hasan himself admits that he is a Marxist who peddles Social Democrat ideas not because he believes in them or because they are his end goal but because he wants to move people closer to his true ideology, that being Marxism. I gave an example where he clearly admits that he is doing this, but he constantly talks about being a Marxist, which is why if you are denying that I am asking you to actually own that position rather than weasel around it.
What I quoted absolutely supports the claim I made, that being that Hasan is a Marxist who uses Social Democrat ideology to funnel people towards Marxism. Again, what if any aspect of that claim are you actually denying?
For decades, idiot Republicans have used the term “Marxist” as a slur to describe any and all Democrats. This has made it possible for an actual, self identifying Marxist to slide along mostly unchallenged by making a very slight effort in mainstream spaces to masquerade as a Social Democrat. On his own stream and in friendly spaces, he is able to openly identify as a Marxist and funnel people towards Marxist ideology and people are simply unable to call him out because of the legacy of fucking morons like McCarthy.
Just because McCarthy saw Communists behind every bush doesn’t mean that Marxists don’t exist. When Hasan openly identifies as one, I believe him.
If @Mijin is actually a frequent Hasan viewer, then he absolutely knows this, and I can think of very few reasons for him to deny it other than being in agreement with Hasan on this.
I think that Babale’s summation of what he quoted, and the bolded parts thereof, is basically fair, although the host was more explicitly Leninist than Piker himself. But I can’t blame anyone for not wanting to wade through that incoherent word salad, and disagree with Babale that either party “clearly stated” anything at all.
Also, Social Democrats are Marxists. The word Babale is looking for is “Marxist-Leninist”, or just “Leninist”. “Tankie” is also acceptable.
Here’s Hasan explaining to his audience why open tankies like Bad Empanada come after him:
If you still think that’s not “clearly stated” - well, I don’t know how accurate the term “clearly stated” is for anything coming out of Piker’s mouth - but I’m happy to look for more examples.
Modern Social Democrats are certainly NOT Marxist, which is why I consider them valid allies. They have ideological roots in Marxism, but they moved away from that a loooooong time ago.
Democratic Socialists are Marxists. But those are not the same thing.
Right – I’m another filthy commie who hates america.
I’m even using the same tactics as Hasan – i.e. failing to say anything which supports your claims, and making you look like a fucking idiot who doesn’t understand what democratic socialism means.
You’re right, when he said that he funnels people beyond Social Democracy and that he’s a Marxist it totally doesn’t support my contention that he’s not actually a Social Democrat but is actually a Marxist who is funneling people beyond Social Democracy.
I mean, you’re clearly sweeping for one. I don’t care whether you are a Marxist yourself or not, any more than I care whether a conservative who sweeps for Fuentes is a Nazi themselves or not.
And I’ll point out that you STILL haven’t said what part of my claim you actually disagree with! Are you denying that Hasan is Marxist?
I’m not seeing Marxist in any of that guy’s ranting either. Is he advocating for workers to control the means of production? He’s saying he’s pushing for something more left than the Social Democrats, but I don’t really know how he defines that. Is it free bus fare and universal healthcare? Is it from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs? Because that’s a big spectrum.
Why is the first example you give for something that’s “more left than Social Democrats” free bus fare and universal healthcare, two proposals that people quite a bit to the right of Social Democrats support? That obviously isn’t what he means.
Thanks for providing that. It’s all I was looking for.
Because that’s what Republicans scream about Mamdani being a socialist for. Like I said, I have no idea where Piker stands on any of this. This thread is the first I’ve heard of him.
Thanks for this, too!
I never heard of him before today. I saw this thread and ignored it, and then the Times ran an article on the lawsuit, so I thought I’d read the thread. This thread had me pretty bewildered.
