Then, when I go back to what I wrote, I hardly know how to answer you (you are PERFECTLY correct on that point) because what you say that I said about majorities is not what you think that I said, etc. etc.,and it would take me an hour to sort it all out and correct you.

To the same end as trying to get people to not call African Americans “nigger”, no? Just because something is/was commonplace or accepted as being “just the way things are” doesn’t mean that they have to continue being that way or should be.
If I was an African American and there was one of the 19th Century treatises on how and why black people are like children and need to be treated like so sitting in the bedside table of every hotel throughout the country, I know that I’d be a tad disconcerted. Here I am with my wife on my honeymoon, ready to start my new life, I open the drawer by the table to put in my watch and keys, and there’s the treatise! I could see that as being a tad worth ranting about, no?

In point of fact I will indeed be leaving this thread because my spouse and I are getting tired and it is Mountain time out here, two hours later than our bodies are used to. So I doubt if we will be performing any abominations for which we deserve to be killed according to Leviticus or acts of “intrinsic evil” (the very words used by the Pope in the English version of his pronouncements) unless you count my spouse’s snoring as “intrinsically evil”.
But to summarize, it works out to this:
Option 1: Hotels supply rooms, beds and other things that go with a hotel room, and stay out of the business of promoting a religious point of view.
or
Option 2: In fairness to everyone in our secular society, they put a copy of the following in each hotel room: One atheist book (Bertrand Russell, Richard Dawkins, for example) the Holy Bible, the Holy Koran, the Vedic Literature of the Hindus, the Book of Mormon, the Bhagavd Gita, the Popul Vuh of the Mayan Religion, the Teachings of Buddha (as a matter of fact I found a copy of this in my other drawer! :eek: ), the writings of the Bah’ai Faith. . . . any others to add?

While I find bibles in hotels irritating as well (along with “in God we trust” on the money and that crap in the pledge of allegiance ) I really don’t see the point in coming to the SDMB to froth at the mouth about it. Although if, (as links here would indicate–I’ve never heard of you before), your presence on this board has just been a long series of juvenile temper tantrums against religion, then there probably isn’t much point in arguing against you, either. But this board isn’t one to “not feed the trolls” so to speak and so loud obnoxious people typically get exactly what they want–lots of people coming and paying attention to them.

Valteron may be making a big deal out of nothing, but he didn’t make Omegaman (or anyone else) say anything. The no personal insults rule is pretty fucking clear, and I don’t recall any exception for comments people ‘get instigated into making.’
I was staying out of it until this. No, these passages do not have zero, ZERO direct effect on him and his husband. They have been used routinely to justify denying them and me and all queer people equality and dignity and, on numerous occasions, freedom and life.
I don’t react in this way to coming across Gideon Bibles in my hotel room – I rarely have, in fact, and even there they tend to be the cheap edition with just the Gospels and Psalms; also I have a Bible at home as a reference work – but here I think you’re really minimizing what’s been done with these.
I’m the first to argue that there are scads of Christians who are very assertively pro-gay, and that these passages have been misinterpreted routinely or overemphasized to ludicrousness, but you can’t really deny what they’ve been and still are used for.
