Hated Shows in your Favorite Series

Inspired by the Babylon 5 thread I started thinking of how many episodes of that I hate in spite of loving the series. So here’s a thread about shows that you love but has crappy crappy shows (please give some reasons for why you hate the episodes though I hate list threads with no context)

First up Babylon 5 broke several rules of Sci-Fi shows and in general a great non Star Trek clone. With a terrible first season and erratic shows afterwards.

  1. Infection, moralizing crap an unbelievable threat to the station some really out-of-character acting by the captain. Seemed like they were trying to make a point that’s been made over and over already by countless shows
  2. Grail stupid monster of the week show with a really silly plot of a guy looking for the Holy Grail and redeeming a thief. Yuck
  3. Geometry of Shadows why this seems to be a fan favorite is beyond me. Terrible F/X and I hate techno mages…I really really do.

Second Sports Night great non-punch line show. The people don’t have funny jokes they have funny conversations. Well written and fast paced you miss a joke because you weren’t paying attention too bad.

  1. Pilot I know it’s not fair to complain about a pilot but this was a pretty bad show. A bunch of people you never see again in secondary roles and it hadn’t found a rhythm yet.
  2. The Quality of Mercy At 29K there was several moralizing episodes in the first season and this is the most annoying to me for some reason. Get over yourselves already.
  3. Rebecca actually all the shows with this cold bitch annoy me. Her entire subplot was worthless.
  4. Draft Day Part I and II. Talk about much Ado about nothing. Just an attempt to inject more drama into the show and introduce unnecessary subplots. As well as 'Jenny the porn star’s attitude is befuddling. “Oh you lied I’m pissed, now I’m ok with it, now I’m pissed again and we’re breaking up” huh?

Mad About You
Well unlike the first two I don’t have the series right in front of me. However I liked this show the best when it was fairly ‘real life’ and the jokes were kept within a reasonable area. Whenever it had ‘zany’ episodes or clip shows I would change the channel. Some stand outs one where it’s all about dreams the couple are having with the cast of Laugh In. There’s a clip show where they’re filling out a magazine quiz and it plays about 5 mins of clips for each question with rapid editing. If you’re going to show old jokes at least give use enough to remember why they were funny the first time.

Firefly
Heart of Gold errr…a local guy has sired a child with a local hooker and the crew of the ship get together to defend the unborn child. Oh and the local guy has a laser pistol…need I say more?

The Message I saw the guy as a manipulative ass from the moment they found out about the fact he was really alive. The whole show just annoyed me for some reason.

Star Trek: Spock’s Brain. Nothing more needs to be said.

Buffy: Beer Bad.

I find it hard to say anything good about the 9/11 *West Wing * episode. It was rushed out way too soon after Sept. 11.

Futurama: Crimes of the Hot. If only they’d explained it away with a stupid joke, but they didn’t and I spend the whole first half of the episode wondering why they don’t just get into their intergalactic spaceship to escape the heat.

Once More With Feeling.

Oh, yes, I did.

The X-Files: “Home.” I despised that episode, but apparently it is a fan favorite.

This thread can’t be complete without a mention of Daria’s infamous “Holiday Island” episode.

Any episode that has to do with the Double Meat Palace. I get it that they’re showing how Buffy is confused and doesn’t know what to do with her life other than kill things, but the Slayer working at a fast food restaurant?

The worst worst worst example of this is that horrible episode where Riley comes back with his wife. God. Awful.

The entire last season of Roseanne, where they win the lottery and start hanging out with snooty rich people. Oh, and their trip to Disney World from the previous season. It seemed like a half-hour Disney commercial.

I believe we’ll have to agree to disagree.

heh this is why I like context. Having never seen Buffy I have no idea why someone would like or dislike either Beer Bad or Once More With Feeling:stuck_out_tongue:

disclaimer: I realize as the OP I cannot control where the thread goes feel free to carry on

Stargate SG-1: Urgo. With Dom DeLuise.

The only SG-1 episode I couldn’t face watching through to the end.

Sheer nepotism.

His son directed that episode.

Buffy : The Body.

And of course that "why didn’t somebody slap her and say “NO! Bad megalomaniacal TV star! Bad!” final episode (though it at least wiped out the last season).

The last episode of Dallas- don’t end a series (a season, fine, but not the whole series) on a cliffhanger. Ditto for the final episode of SOAP (though in their case they didn’t know it was the final episode so they’re pardoned).

I liked MAS*H but there are several super preachy episodes I skip (including one in which not only is the
Charles Drew myth repeated but it’s discussed as if it happened long before even when in fact he died in 1950 (a year or two before the scene took place).

No kidding. Definately the last year, but to some extent the couple of seasons before that. And particularly the Disney episode…which was followed by the episode where David joins Hans the Hare land (or whatever it was called) which was obviously a satire of Disney. Did they get railroaded into doing a Disney commercial and then retaliated with Hans the Hare? I always found that rather odd.

(And sad, as i’ve been watching some of the early shows and it really was good, for a long time.)

Red Dwarf - probably the only series I like enough to care.

Meltdown - I understand that many people didn’t like this one because it originally aired during the first gulf war. I didn’t see it until almost 10 years later, when we weren’t at war, and the episode still sucked.

DNA - What was the point of this one? The only highlight to this episode was the double polaroid.

Beyond a Joke - Damn this one was boring.

Camille - wow, the 3 worst episodes all in one season.

Duct Soup and Blue - While I like most of each of these episodes, Kochanski was really annoying. She didn’t start growing on me until Epideme.

Out of 8 seasons, only 6 episodes that I didn’t really like - not bad.

I like many other shows but not enough to get annoyed if an episode sucked.

MAS*H: I hated the dream episode, but can’t remember the name. Surrealism gives me a headache and in general I just dislike dream shows anyway.

If your’re anything like me, the problem with Camille is repeaded viewings. It was absolutely smegging hilarious the first time I saw it but now it’s kind of meh.
