Hatin' on Christmas music!

Then cover your ears:

And if I had to listen to that sung 6 times a day, it would drive me just as batty as having to hear the Hula Hoop by the Alvin and the Chipmunks or the Muppet version of 12 Days of Christmas.

At least these days, I happen to have a good deal of control over the music at my store and (generally without telling anyone) quietly block the songs that irritate me.

Here’s a bit of context for “Baby, It’s Cold Outside.” Yes, that’s Ricardo Montalban. Didn’t know Mr Roarke could sing, did you? These are clips from Neptune’s Daughter.

Male & female versions Ricardo singing to Esther Williams followed by Betty Garrett & Red Skelton

There are very few songs I want to hear more than 500 times. None of them happen to be Christmas songs.

In most retail situations the current Christmas music stock is devoid of hymns. I challenge you to ever find even “Silent Night” amongst the awful pop Christmas music played. This holds true for most Christmas radio except for the Christian stations, which often make you suffer through platitudes and sermonizing and all that unpleasantness when you just want to hear a nice choir sing “Joy to the World”.

“The Little Drummer Boy” is a fine Christmas song BTW.

Except for the versions that do not incorporate drums, of course.

As long as we have the Christmas Donkey song every 20 minutes or so, all is right with the playlist. NOT!!!

no, she had a nervous breakdown from all the noise and scents

Considering there are 184 birds there of 6 species, I suspect there will be a lot of scents that aren’t too pleasant. Be careful where you walk.

Sorry to veer slightly off course, but speaking of Pinky and Perky, check out this clip… stay until the duck.

We need a Little Drummer Boy/ Wipe Out mashup

ETA: Of course someone has already done it.Starts at 1:00

OMG, that duck was huge! (The pigs are life-sized, right?)

Good lord, Crackerjack! At least P&P didn’t have to hold cabbages as well (and am I correctly remembering that their quiz prizes were,….. pencils?)

..

Yep.

If played sparingly.

Yes. But not just any old pencils … Crackerjack pencils !

This.

and this too.
