Hatin' on Deanna Troi

Nope, because inter-character conflict was against the series bible. Humanity had evolved past those petty differences and all got along. Only outsiders could create conflict.

I mean, everyone even agreed with Picard that they’d rather die than have to choose to kill half their people. It was a plot point–Picard identified fake crew members because they had a different opinion.

Y’know, having the cast of Night Court staffing the bridge of the Enterprise could be pretty enjoyable, for a couple of episodes, anyway.

She got more attractive in Voyager and the movies. Or at the very least they figured out what to do with her hair.

Well, early seasons, anyway. I don’t remember exactly when they killed off Yar.

OMG! This thread certainly is very amusing.

Mostly because of the way it was started some 7 years ago.

But, I must admit that I have wanted to be able to criticize the D. Troi character for a long time.

Just my personal opinion. But I never found the slightest value in her character. It was just so incredibly stupid that some of the crew member had these “special” powers. Like Data was a cyborg. And Deanna was a kind of (oh what the Heck do you even call it? … some kind of empath? or mind reader?)

I thought she was just disgusting because IMHO, she was not at all very attractive or hot or sexy. Yet many of the crew members behaved as if she was. It just rang FALSE! It just rang FAKE! FAKE! FAKE!

And how did she come from some goofy planet where the people had British accents? Oh, come on! Get real! What a stupid series!
In addition, her story lines hardly never contributed anything to the overall series. IMO, she was just a waste of space and so was her stupid mother. Her mother was just an incredible embarrassing waste of space. Yuck! Ugh! Blechh!

That would be awesome.
Christine Sullivan as Ship’s Counselor.

And Brent Spiner in character as Data reprising Bob Wheeler.

One of them is.

Trekkies In Court

Heck, John Larouquette could play a Klingon.

Whaddyamean “he did already”?

I want to say it was the first season. Yep, end of the first season.

And may I just say I’m proud that my dislike of Troi has endured through the years to reemerge as a zombie.

I rarely like Star Trek characters right from the start. Troi just got screwed being the counselor/psychologist. Those characters always get screwed. Writers don’t seem to know what to do with them, so they never get to kick ass like the rest of the team.

They should have made her a bit more like Widow in the new Avengers movie, totally screwing with people’s minds, anticipating all their moves (in combat) etc.

Or the cast of “Murphy Brown”. Candice Bergen as the Captain of the Bridge, Charles Kimbrough as a Vulcan First Officer, Grant Shaud the Chief of Engineering, Joe Regalbuto the Security Chief, Faith Ford the Ship’s Counselor…

An endless parade of secretaries in red shirts.

Based on these, I started a Recast Star Trek thread.

I disagree. If you have seen the first movie. Deanna (a Betazoid) is clearly Ilia (a Deltan), Riker is clearly Decker (name, hello). And Data performed a trick with dice early on that Roddenberry already did in The Questor Tapes, another show he was trying to do with an android.

Man didn’t have a lot of creativity.

Hey, he was just an avid recycler! :stuck_out_tongue:

Troi’s mother annoyed the hell out of me. Every time she appeared, I thought “Oh shit, Roddenbury gave his wife something to do.” And as far as Troi and the casting of Sirtis in that role, keep in mind that in the TOS days, Roddenbury was a firm believer in the Power of the Creator/Producer’s Casting Couch.

Marina Sirtis originally auditioned for Tasha Yar. That trivia makes my mind boggle just a bit.

If he were alive, Mel Tormé would have made a great Ferengi.
