“‘Romulan Star Empire’ … what’s that?”
I would chalk some of the hatred up to simple franchise exhaustion. We had had nearly a decade and a half of some kind of Trek or another on television by the time Enterprise debuted. That’s a lot of photon torpedoes. If the fans had been given a couple of years to miss getting their weekly fix, I think the show would have been much more well-received.
