"Have a blessed day!"... [Chick-fil-a]

So, why are you eating there, if the food is so awful and the employees are annoying you?

I can only conclude that you ENJOY being “insulted” and self-righteously angry.

Are you aware that Popeye’s has non-spicy chicken as well? I generally prefer the spicy, but the regular is rather good for fast-food fried chicken. As a bonus, it doesn’t taste vaguely of rancid pickles, like McD’s and (as I recall from long ago) CFA.

When I first learned of CFA’s bigoted stance, I was disappointed that I couldn’t start boycotting them on that basis, because I was already boycotting them for lousy food. Religious smarmery at the counter would be just one more noxious, pickle-reeking reason to avoid them.

"Look at me, everybody, look at me! I’m putting principle first, and boycotting a store I never ate at anyway.

THAT’LL show 'em!"

Well, no. Clearly, I’m putting not eating at a place with food I hate first. It’s just fortuitous that the place run by assholes happens to be one I dislike for other reasons. It offers me an opportunity to make a tongue-in-cheek comment.

“Have a blessed day!”

This has been said to me at McDonalds, BK, various gas stations, Michaels, Kroger, Dollar Tree, Walmart, and several other places. Did not know it was a Chik Fila thing.

QuickSilver – pls. use thread titles that indicate the topic of your thread. I added some info to yours.

Thanks,

I understand that. Just as many people aren’t fans of bland foods. The Chik Fila thing might not be the same as other fast foods, but seems to me like anything you could make at home or get any cheapish family or local restaurant in many areas. It’s a piece of chicken that is fried. When I cooked in a restaurant, we would often make something similar (not on the menu) for ourselves. It’s basic. Last I checked you can also find a pickle slice and low quality sandwich bun just about anywhere, too.

Well, people obviously have widely varying opinions on the quality of CFA’s food.

But my wife and son and I liked their chicken, and it’s the only place I’ve seen waffle fries (which I like) in the past 25 years, and my son really liked their play areas. Which as I’ve mentioned were reliably clean, which scored points with my wife and me.

So until a couple of years ago, we patronized CFA frequently. Now we don’t go there at all. Not because they don’t believe gays should have equal rights - people believe all sorts of things. But because their owner was using his profits to help block gays from having equal rights, which is another thing altogether.

I’ve been boycotting them for years, which was easy because I didn’t know where any were. One just opened in my area, so my boycott is no longer entirely toothless. It’s only almost entirely toothless now.

The difference being that this one I don’t have to go home to make or hang around a family restaurant to get. I go through a drive-through window or up to a counter and a few minutes later I’m one chicken sandwich richer for my efforts.

I am not a fan of CFA’s politics by any stretch, but when they came to town recently I gave the food a shot because I had heard it was irresistable. I’ve been back a few times because of the limited choices in our area.
It’s certainly better than McD’s or Wendy’s by a mile, and the ingredients (chicken and potatoes) are easily recognizable as having been a chicken or a potato at one point in the recent past. More than I can say for the others.
The people at the CFA here haven’t said to me, “have a blessed day,” they just say “My pleasure” about 10 times, which is fine but has to get old even for the nicest employees.

I tend to agree. For fast-food chicken sandwiches, they pretty much are the best.

OK, that’s going a little too far. Cajun seasoning is awesome, but Chick-fil-a has a better chicken sandwich, in my opinion.

Meh. Who gives a shit about a blessing? I’m atheist and I could(n’t) give a fuck. It’s just people being nice. The anti-gay thing, though, yeah, that’s problematic. But I’ll sneak a sandwich once or twice a year.

You hear…blessed… used in place of fortunate or *lucky *all the time down here in the slave states.

Coach Bobby Liverspots of The West Florida Fightin’ Flamingoes said, " we was blessed that ball bounced sideways and rolled out of bounds to protect our win."

I enjoy Popeye’s chicken, but CFA has a damned fine chicken sandwich, a great chicken and biscuit sandwich and really good iced tea.

Eat More Kale

Tonight’s episode: “The Sneeze

Andy Angryatheist: "ah-ah-AHCHOO!
Gary Getalongguy: “Bless you!”
Andy Angryatheist: “Hey! Don’t use my suffering to push your religious beliefs and superstitions on me.”
Gary Getalongguy: “Ummm… ok.”

Later that day.

Andy Angryatheist: "AHCHOO! "
Gary Getalongguy: “Stop spreading your snot around here. Go somewhere else to die.”
Andy Angryatheist: “Thank you for showing a little religious sensitivity. I’m happy to see we made some progress today.”

I also like CFAs sauces. They have a nice variety of flavored HFCS.

Plus waffle fries, which I adore.

Not eating at Popeye’s is easy for me, since there isn’t one within 10 miles. The alternative chicken place around here is El Pollo Loco, which I also adore. That’s where you can get [this](http://m.elpolloloco.com/our-food/#/menu-item/c6a530ea-1819-4bac-9710-17754da3591b/Spicy Chipotle Burrito) in place of a chicken sandwich.

Wendy’s chicken sandwiches look like chicken breasts (because they are). The also sell baked pototatos, which are much more recognizable as having been a potato than waffle fries.

to me, that’s more of a visual thing than a flavor thing. Wendy’s food, except the chili and the sea salt fries, tastes like it’s been steamed all day. I think CFAs fries are more potato-ey than Wendy’s baked potatoes.

I wish we had Pollo Loco down here. CFA might as well offer to lick my nuts and feed me grapes as offer a blessing: I’d still go to Pollo Loco. Or **Taco del Mar. **. Talk about the miracle of the loaves and the fishes.
