Years ago, I was listening to a Boston AM station (forget which one), and the DJ had an offbeat way of playing the “Top 100 Hits”.
What he would do was to play the first 5 seconds of a song, followed by the last 5 seconds-in this way, he could play them all in less than 20 minutes.
Has anyone done this again?
Its sort of like reading a “Reader’s Digest” condensed novel-yopu get most of it in very little time!

This was compiled sometime starting back in the 1970s when I first heard it. (And depending upon which one they have loaded they’re missing one or two.)

It’s called “scoping” (as in telescoping) Normally the technique is only used for production checks, audtion tapes and other boring business stuff.
