Have Any of You Been in Jail?

The title pretty much says it all. Have any of you been to prison/jail/some sort of rehabilatory facility or been on parole. If you have been, what did you do to end up there? How long were you there? What was it like in the slammer? Do you think your sentence was fair? Did it help you? What kind of people were you with?

Sentenced to jail, or merely ended up there as a result of an arrest? I’ve been a guest of the facilities you mentioned, but–so far–not as my official punishment for anything.

Either one, although I’m more interested in those who’ve been sentenced.

My tale is available here, along with those of some other people on this board.

Yes, one time only. I got drunk on the 4th of July and did something stupid. I would tell you but I’d rather spare myself the embarrasment.

I did time in my younger days. Ft Leavenworth…a drug bust. Sentenced to 6 months confinement did 4 1/2. As for rehabilitation…didn’t need it. I just bought some dope for a “friend” I was not a dealer.

I went there twice…both for minor consuming. The first time I never entered a cell, I just paid my fine and left. The second the thought I had stolen a road sign…I had a beer too. I spent the might there. Both charges were later dropped because I threatened to file a counter law suit, for being mistreated with out any cause. I had given up with out any fight. I had cooperated completely. But he still was cursing at me and calling me names. All the other officers were really nice. At the jail I knew a the sheriff, he is the one that gave me the idea of lawsuit. But I have to behave for 4 more years or they can bring the charges back up. Both times I’ve been arrested for minor consuming I have had a single beer…lol. I never leave the house now after I have taken just one sip. That is till next month.

Yep…spent the night in the county jail.

A few years ago, my drivers license had been suspended (for speeding) but I had been driving back and forth to work anyway. Didn’t really have much choice. It was either that, or not work.

So, one day, I was driving to work, I arrive and pull into the parking lot, followed by a policeman. The only reason he pulled me over is because he recognized me and suspected I didn’t have a license, gotta love working in a small town.

So, he tells me I have to go to the county jail. I had to go in and tell my boss that I couldn’t work that day because I was being hauled off to prison. Heehee.

Luckily, the kind policeman didn’t bother handcuffing me or making me ride in back, I got to ride up front. And he gave me tissues because I was crying.

I called my parents, they thought it was funny and wouldn’t bail me out because they wanted me to learn a lesson and figured one night in the slammer wouldn’t do me any serious damage. However, my dad was kind enough to bring me a book and a bottle of Coke. Oh, and to make fun of his inmate daughter, naturally.

They took away my shoes, and my cigarettes and lighter, and all my jewelry.

They served me dinner. On a tin tray. With milk in a little tin cup.

I carved my name in the wall and sang the blues.

All in all, it was kind of a funny experience. Until the drunks in the cell next door woke me up. Bastards.

Of course, more than likely I wouldn’t find any humor in it if I had been there for something serious…(well, I thought it was serious at the time, looking back, now that I’ve had my license back and a few years of a clean driving record behind me, I can laugh my ass off).

I was seriously pissed a few months ago, though, when I learned that my sister’s boyfriend has been charged with the very same offense, driving without a license, twice (!) in the very same county, same town even, and not even a hint of a threat of having to spend the night in jail. Jerks.

Four times.

  1. Public Intoxication, hadn’t even been drinking

  2. Warrant for failure to attend defensive driving

  3. DWI plead down to Reckless Driving (BAC varied by a full .10 through the THREE blows I had to do)

  4. Possession of Drug Paraphenalia (a nifty pipe)
Shortest time incarcerated, 4 hours, longest a little over 12.

Nine times…four times for pot, three DWIs, one time for driving with suspended license, and one time for burglary of a vehicle. The longest time I’ve ever spent locked up was six months.
All this happened a few years back, I’m 31 now, the last time I got arrested was about five years ago. I’ve now changed my ways. As for what it’s like being in a correctional facility, that’s a whole other story that I’ll save for another time…
