The only bug I eat besides crawfish is termites because they are delicious. Not very filling though. They are so tiny all you get is a slight pleasant taste. I have sampled grubs because I notice everything else in nature seems to love them. I would certainly seek them out in a survival situation as they are not too bad. Meal worms, grasshoppers and crickets I have tried but none of them I would eat again unless I was starving.
Thanks for the book recommendations! Those both sound like they’re up my alley.
Can you tell me more about this? How did it taste? How was it served? Tarantula seems like an advanced level of entomophagy.
During the pandemic I ate a bag of bbq crickets in front of my students (virtually).
Bland, a little like chicken crossed with shrimp, and crispy.
My Thai wife has eaten giant water bugs a few times that I remember. Not whole like this tutorial but crushed into a paste with peppers, lemongrass, etc. The bugs themselves smell awful. You can buy the distilled essence of the damn things in small glass vials. It is a perfectly clear liquid but smells just as bad. She claims they ate tarantulas when she was young and poor.
