Have any police unions offered empathy? Have any other unions?

I’m generally of the opinion that unions can offer an important counter-balance to corporations but right now I’m done with police unions. They should all be disbanded. Now. I am seriously irritated after reading this:

I would understand if they were ensuring that the cop was getting a fair trial but they sure appear to be blindly supporting him. I’ve seen numerous similar stories about tone-deaf police unions but none about unions admitting that there might be problems. This could of course be selective reporting. Have any admitted mea culpa?

What about non-police unions? I would think that the police are partially damning all unions and that at least one would step up and criticize the police but I’m not seeing that, either. (Which again may be selective reporting.)

I’m disgusted.

Asshole Kroll’s (MPD union president) response to the murder of George Floyd.
Every public sector union in the Twin Cities have denounced Kroll and the MPD union. The head of AFL-CIO has requested he step down

I just posted this in GD, seems like it will fit here as well.

A quick excerpt: “Stop treating us like animals and thugs, and start treating us with some respect!” he said. “That’s what we’re here today to say. We’ve been left out of the conversation. We’ve been vilified. It’s disgusting.”

With a quote like that you would think the NYPD were having a real coming to Jesus moment about their historical treatment of non-white people. Nope, they are mad because people have started to treat them the same exact way that they have treated black and brown folks since forever.

The cognitive dissonance on display from cops all over the country is truly staggering.

I bet he had a hearty laugh over that one-He’s got his protection racket going on, and he doesn’t a flying fuck what non-police think, unionized or not.

He’s the head of the state PBA. At the same news conference, the head of the city PBA, Patrick Lynch, actually called what happened to Floyd a murder, so there is that.

Well, I hope he is starting to see Jesus, as Chief Arradondo is withdrawing from contract negotiations with the union.

(Took a bit of glee in posting the wcco link, as one of their “chief reporters” is married to Asshole Kroll. They will never publicly confirm, and she’s “interviewed” him many times before about police related issues)

The President of my local sent out a mass e-mail in support of the protestors. So did the President of my local council. The President of the entire union has condemned it publicly as well.

I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that there is some all-encompassing union solidarity on this issue. Quite the contrary.

“It” being the murder of George Floyd of course.
