Have high level liberal operatives infiltrated the right-wing message machine in order to make them look silly?
Okay, I’m asking that with tongue firmly in cheek, but look at the evidence.
[ul]
[li]They’re planning mass demonstrations in a few days by people who describe themselves as “teabaggers” and rant endlessly about “teabagging”.[/li]
For those who don’t already know, here’s the Urban Dictionary definition of teabagging. NSFW!
teabagging
To have a man insert his scrotum into another person’s mouth in the fashion of a teabag into a mug with an up/down (in/out) motion.
[li]Then there’s the organization “Nation for Marriage”. Have you seen their new anti-same sex marriage ad? Here’s a link to the video. I’m not sure that I’d label it NSFW but be careful even so.[/li]http://www.nationformarriage.org/site/c.omL2KeN0LzH/b.5075663/k.A89C/Religious_Liberty.htm
This organization, which sees same sex marriage as a gathering storm that threatens their freedoms, has started a new initiative.
2 men for man. Personal ads abbreviation for a gay male threesome.[/spoiler]Do these people not have access to Google? Or are they in reality wealthy performance artists yanking all our chains?[/ul]
Hmm. This sounds vaguely familiar. I wonder who is “yanking one’s chains?”
Maybe they are performance artists. Or maybe all right-wingers are, indeed, homosexuals wishing for scrotal contact. I don’t know know. Enlighten me, with tongue firmly planted in cheek.
And please, I don’t want this to go to the Pit or Great Debates or to the moderators. Maybe these folks just have a gripe they want to express.
From what I know, they are they are using the Boston Tea Party as metaphor to say they disagree with the government. What’s wrong with that?
And finally, after more than 10 years on this board – I started reading Cecil back in the '80s and I’m glad I did – I quit.
I used to post as “Ag80,” and changed to “oliversarmy.” You can look up my posts to see where I stand on issues. But, there’s no longer any variance on the meme here anymore, no matter the forum.
I came here for truth, and I found it. Cecil and Ed and a lot of the moderators and posters are good people that cut through the crap and give good information.
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to disagree with the government, I support that right entirely. The problem is that these people seem to be entirely clueless as to how they’re going about it. I understand the symbolism of tea. The problem is their use of the words “teabagger” and “teabagging” which, as far as I know, have had no use up till now other than a sexual one. You’d think that someone somewhere along the way would have realized that they were setting themselves up to look silly.
As to the second group, they’re delivering a hateful message so screw 'em. Excuse me if I find humor in the irony of the acronym they’re using.
Have I really personally caused you to leave the dope? If so, I’m truly sorry about that.
You may be on to something. I saw NOM’s video on Youtube, and my first impression was that it was extremely deadpan satire. Really, I’m not convinced even now that it’s for real.
I really think this is another case of people linking their niche/unpopular slang term to a supposed reference in the mainstream and then acting in mock: “How could they not have known? Are they that stupid?”
Honestly, it’s moronic. If you ask the average person on the street what “teabagging” means, unless they play Halo 3, they’re going to assume it has something to do with actual teabags.
The same with 2M4M. First, I haven’t seen a personals section of the paper use the phrase M4M in a long time. It’s always written out “Men Seeking Men.” Because the idea of gay people having to use coded signals so as to not alert the heteros of their presence has pretty much been done away with. Secondly, that’s about the best acronym they could get out of their group’s name. Something less catchy would be less effective.
Basically, it boils down to this: your cute insider phrase is not as popular as you think it is and if someone on the outside starts using it, it’s likely not connected in any way.
