Have links to YouTube been disabled?

I can get videos to work if I only do one per post, don’t edit after, and use youtu.be followed by a / then the video ID then another slash.

Like this.

There’s a difference between “imbedding” a YouTube video into a post, vs. just posting a link to a YouTube video.

Imbedding is a No-No and not permitted here, as someone else said upthread, it is loading the video onto the discourse site. Posting a link is okay as you are just creating a link with an image of the video which is still hosted on the YouTube site.

Various methods like that have been extensively discussed upthread. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. It’s disappointing that no one from Discourse has been by to even acknowledge the problem.

Let me try one now. youtu.be link didn’t work without the slash. Trying now with the appended slash (which sometimes works and sometimes not).

The above post worked this time (might not next time) but I was unable to edit it without getting the error message again.

Yeah, it really needs to be fixed. I think it’s the biggest problem the board software has right now, and it has been broken for weeks.

I suspect it may be an issue with a setting that was tweaked specifically on this board (the one that blocks uploading images directly). As such, other forums may not be experiencing it.

It might be useful to try and contact @codinghorror outside of this forum. Maybe have the moderators or @Ed_Zotti bring it up to the Discourse tech people.

At least one other forum isn’t…

test.

testing, testing

(1) Bedrock’s Redstone SUCKS, Here’s Why. - YouTube

It’s not showing a preview, but it saved the link just fine, and the link plays if I click on it.

Editing post for kicks.

It’s definitely still broken. I unbanned our test account and tried to post a youtube link. Not only did that not work, but since it was a “problem” new post from an account that was just un-banned, the system completely Silenced the account for mod review (Silenced accounts can’t post).

We use this account to train new mods, so he’s already been banned far more often than even our most troublesome users, but now he gets to add an automatic system ban to his record. :stuck_out_tongue:

That account is soooo bad that even Bad, bad Beck is impressed with its exploits.

Huh, i guess mods get special privileges, including posting links to YouTube?

Anyway, Ed has bumped the question to the Discourse people.

i was going to say why dont we ask @codinghorror whats up ? its hiss mess lol

? why doesn’t it work for you then ?

Excellent !

He hasn’t posted here since last october …

It did work for me. It let me post, and if i click on my post, the video plays.

Oh. We can all do that… but can you edit it ?

After i posted it? Probably. But i thought non-mods can’t edit anything after 10 minutes.

Maybe I’m not understanding the issue.

Edited to add: yes, i just edited my post.

Ah … i see you can post with the
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmaXZldgq8U
format ! If we try that we get the “can’t embed stuff” error
Us mortals have to use the
https://youtu.be/K10LDBf2Jgw/
form for it to work, then if we try to edit the post, we get the “can’t embed stuff” error.

Still, at the end of the day (:face_vomiting: ), we can post videos, so i’m not going
to worry !
