I am talking about very sophisticated programs that analyze the use of words, and phrases, such that the identity of an author claimed can be confirmed.
For example, the claim that authors other than Shakespeare wrote the famous plays has been made-if you analyzed the plays, and found substantial differences between them , would it prove authorship by other men?
The same with the gospels of the NT-has anything like this been done?
They have done this sort of analysis of Shakespeare in the past. It’s shown two things:
- The plays are internally consistent; that is, they had the same author.
- None of the supposed other authors had a similarity score anywhere near the internal score.
In other words, the only person who matched Shakespeare well was the person who wrote other Shakespeare plays. Other candidates didn’t come close to matching.
Those pushing other candidates just say that the analysis is too suspect to prove anything, so they continue to debate the issue and usually ignore this as evidence.
