Have there been any serious (not comedic) superheros or villains with dog like powers

Just curious.

Mad-dog
Lockjaw

Animal Man, Vixen, and Beast Boy/Changeling when they want them.

There’s that cop in Top Ten who actually is a dog.

Wolfsbane was a lycanthrope.

I guess Wolverine’s “sniffing” sense comes pretty close, although his occasional tendency to hump Magneto’s leg sometimes led to uncomfortable silences.

Marvel has had three separate characters called “Red Wolf.” There’s also a Legionnaire called “Timber Wolf.” And Steve Englehart brought his creator-owned character “Coyote” to at least two companies.

DC’s Enemy Ace adopted a wild dog as his personal avatar.

Nelvanna of the North Wind, a Canadian comic book character, rode around on a magic flying Great Dane.

Does Ace the Bat-Hound count? Or Krypto, for that matter?

So does that fall into the serious or comedic camp?

I believe Marvel’s WildChild’s animal mutation comes from the canine part of the genepool, not the usual feline…

Patsy Walker’s husband “Buzz” became a (pathetic and uber-lame but supposed to be serious) bad-guy named Mad-Dog

Tsk.

Of course, for those not in the know, this was done in order to throw him against his ex-wife’s HERO identity as Hellcat.

Jack Kirby’s charactor Kamandi has a dog scientist friend named, appropriately enough, Doctor Canus

(he’s pictured here hanging trussed up from the capitol dome.)

DC’s Rex the Wonder Dog had dog-like powers, being a dog - and he did his heroics without mechanical arms, unlike that dog in Top Ten.

KAMANDI!

BMalion, you just saved me the trouble of posting an OP in Cafe Society. My barber had something like 2 issues of this comic on his magazine table for 10 years, back when I was really young. I could NOT remember the boy’s, the dog’s or the series’ name. Thank you much, sir!

I think I read about him somewhere.

Glad to help!

Kirby at nearly his best in my mind, I loved Kamandi when it came out.

It was as serious as any other 1940 superhero comic book. Checking Google, I can’t find any pictures of her riding the dog and may have to withdraw that claim. The picture I saw years ago was for a series of Canadian postal stamps featuring Canadian superheroes, but the stamp I keep running across now has no dog in it.

Manimal, I presume. (I never watched it but I believe he could turn into any animal.)

Lame, and kinda disgusting!
