Have there been large scale castrations of Illinois drivers?

Seriously, WTF? I’ve had to drive down to Chicago from Madison 4 times in the last month – normally I would get down there about once or twice a year. Either 90 all the way in past O’Hare, or to 39 South, and then coming into the more southwest burbs via 88 and 355.

I’m usually one of the slower drivers on the road, usually about 67mph, rarely over 70. But these last few times, I’ve been passing … GOBS of slower drivers. Big trucks, limos, SUVs, every vehicle in the vehicle rainbow.

Is this ALL about gas prices? Has the state started issuing speeding tickets based on timing vehicles between IPass tolls? Have they been promised a reward in driver heaven?

When a WI driver starts thinking IL drivers are too slow, something is seriously wrong.

It’s happening in Florida too, and it’s almost purely gas prices. For a couple months I noticed I was the only one going 84 in a 70 zone, and usually lots of people are doing that. But still, policemen were passing me once every few weeks going that speed and not ticketing me, so it isn’t enforcement.

But. Once I noticed it, I have been reducing my speed, because I have a feeling that policemen might be less picky with who they will stop for speeding due to a lack of speeders.

Between gas prices and the huge fines/penalties for speeding in a construction zone - you never actually left one during your drive, did you? - people are holding back a tad. You still see the tailgating assholes who have to do at least 20 miles above the speed limit and everyone else is in their way, but it’s calmer.
