Have you done your taxes yet? Check-in thread.

We did ours this last Saturday, using Turbo Tax. We owed more than we thought we would, until we remembered that we had switched our 401(k) contributions into the Roth options that our employers now provide. That makes a difference in how much income you’re going to be taxed on.

Well, at least it’s done. And I’m not seeing the debit for our tax bill come out of our bank account yet, which surprises me. I thought they’d nick us first thing today.

Who else is done?

No, not until I see Trump’s.

I do mine the first week of February, because I always get a refund. I’ve already spent/earmarked it all for boring shit like home insurance and landscaping.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago. Mine are really simple because I have SSA, so I don’t have taxes withheld. I did my federal and state taxes on my phone in a couple of minutes, but since I don’t have a taxable income, I don’t qualify to e-file my returns. I ended up printing them out and dropping them in the mail.

Done a while ago. Turbo Tax’d it. I don’t really like Turbo Tax, especially this newest version, but it’s fast and I really didn’t want to spend a lot of time dealing with it this year so I used them again.

Already got our refunds weeks ago.

Mine aren’t due till April 30, but I finished them and netfiled yesterday. I still have US taxes to do, but I don’t have to till June 15. The US tax forms are easy and the foreign tax credit wipes out any tax due, but they have a special form of torture called FATCA which takes most of a day to do.

Just gotta sign them and send them off. Almost hit it on the button this year. We owe the feds $4. I was expecting to owe more, but I guess having that extra dependent last year helped with that. I think I’ve gotten a federal refund once or twice in the last fifteen years, so I always keep it to almost the last minute. That said, I’m not sure the prospect of a refund would have me complete them any sooner, anyway.

Done, (But I don’t do them myself, we have a CPA)

Sent payment yesterday, although not due yet, I wanted it over with.

Did mine in February.

Yep. Already got refund.

Did them in early March. Refund is already gone.

Yep. Two refunds, a month ago.

Finished over the weekend, using Turbo Tax. Had a tricky one this year, with a 1031 Tax Free Real Estate Exchange. That took some figuring. I almost gave up and hired a pro.

In late February, I think. Turbo tax. Got the refunds in 2 or 3 weeks.

E-filed federal yesterday through Turbo Tax State is finished will mail in a few days as I owe on it and I refuse to pay the credit card fee.

Done two weeks ago. Got a very small refund from the fed which has been deposited in my bank account. Zeroed out on the state this year. My goal is always to owe as next to nothing as possible. Did pretty good this year.

Early February (As soon as we got our last documents). Already spent most of the refunds.

I did mine in February,

I efiled ours last week. Maryland has already taken its share, and I mailed a check to the feds because last year, for some reason, TaxAct screwed up and didn’t transfer the money from our bank to the gummint. So this year, I efiled with the voucher option, and I mailed a check which hasn’t cleared yet.

We had to redo our W4s to have more withheld. With luck, next year, we’ll be close to breaking even.

And I resent having to pay for Mar-a-Lago…

Mine were done last Saturday. I pay an accountant to do them for me. I don’t care, they get done, they get done on time, and they get done correctly. Money well spent as far as I’m concerned! The only thing I have to do is gather the documents.
