Just wondering. I carry pepper spray on me now, but I (knock on wood) have never needed it. Not really interested in stories in which pepper spray was used to avoid dogs… more like effectively used to fight against a mugger.
I used it once at work. I work private security and we carry it as one of the few countermeasures at our disposal. I’m not allowed to give specifics, but it worked quite well to calm the subject down enough for us to dog-pile him and cuff him.
My wife uses hers pretty regularly. Dogs only, though. She is a postal carrier and just won’t leave the PO without it.
Yes. Against an ex-husband (he wasn’t ex at the time).
When I delivered mail, I used it twice against dogs going for my legs. Worked quite well. The owner of one who took a nice bite out of pants leg came running up and said the dog would never bite. but want the old putz smiley.
I was jogging in a city park and a leashless dog surprised me with a bite on the upper arm (I’m 6’ 1", 220 pounds, so not a small dog), ran off, and approached for another bite.
I pulled out the bear mace and placed a thick cloud which thwarted the second bite but then drifted and choked out the dog’s owner.
He was livid. Which lit me up like a christmas tree: “Listen you fucking idiot, if I hadn’t done that, your dog would be dead right now. Do you realize that? Control your dog” Most likely, I would have inflicted serious injury or even killed the dog through defending myself.
An overall shitty experience…
