Recommend a Pepper spray.

For my Wife.

My Wife is a triathlete. She spends a lot of time training, including running mountain trails alone or with the dogs.

Not as worried about 4 legged predators as we are about the 2 legged ones. Sad situation.

Not far from here a female surveyor working for the forest service was killed out in the middle of nowhere buy a nutso woodsy. They caught the bastard.

We are looking for something ‘key chain’ sized or a little bigger. What would be ideal is if it had some sort of belt clip. Can’t seem to find that, though I am still looking.

think I found it.

Still wouldn’t mind any comments or suggestions. Experiances etc.

This is what I carry.

It has a belt clip, hangs upside down for a right hander. When you grab it, it is positioned so you just slip your thumb under the safety flap and you ready to go. No fiddling around to get it in position. i’ve only used it on dogs but it puts them down NOW.

I can’t remember the brand I had (I gave it to a friend who was going through some scary stuff with being threatened, etc., and she had to walk to her car alone at night), but my advice to your wife is to practice with the spray. When I used mine the first couple times, it was difficult to get the right pressure on the trigger, and then when I figured that out, I was shocked at how short the distance was that it sprayed. I don’t know what I was expecting (super soaker?), but it showed me that I’d have to be pretty up close and personal to use the spray.

Go with Fox Labs.

Thanks. I’m thinking about a two ounce size so she can practice a bit. I’ll probably get a couple of them. Can’t seem to find one with a belt clip. In any case, the websites are a bit lacking.

Did anyone here about the woman joggers attacked by wolves? Pretty scary. One woman did use her pepper spray. It helped a little, she said she ‘rainbowed’ it over them. Two many to give each a burst I guess.

We don’t have wolves here. But we certainly have bears and cougars.

Oven Cleaner

I carry one similar to that as well.

Make sure you have on that has a flip-top over the trigger. I got a lungful of capsaicin from a classmate’s pepper spray that only had a twist-trigger on it. All it takes if it gets set off safety is a good bump.
