Brother Rat (lousy Dumbo reference I was using as a throw away to ask 1 questions so …)
to Jinxie (based on a Cartoon Network commercial but which was too close to Jinx who had a habit of laying low then started about 10 thread asking different questions so …)
to Osiris (which I liked but was my real name and as the board got bigger I thought wasn’t such a good idea so …)
to Fern Forest (which I’ll be at to the end of time or face a mega-Mod smack down for indecisiveness. Plus I like it. )
BTW, my first two name changes were way back in the first half of 2001 when the board was much smaller. I don’t know if the mods would be so accomodating now.
If this board was more open in it’s policies I’d probably change every few months. It’s like trying on a new shirt.
I’ve been pondering a change to Komiksulo to reflect the greater prominence in my life of cartooning and Esperanto rather than solar-powered houses (which is where the “sunspace” thing originally came from)… but that would weaken the ties with my sunspace.org domain, which is still active.
I changed mine recently - until a few weeks ago, I was tamaraqueenofgoths
I’d wanted to change it for a while, because I’d never loved it, and it was just the first thing that came to mind when I registered. I figured I should do it before I had some kind of prolific posting history, and everyone would wonder what the hell happaned to tamara? (a girl can dream…). It was a reference to Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus, which I’d just read for a class. It was a pretty easy decision to change it, really.
Anyway, badbadrubberpiggy is a reference to the cartoon Invader Zim. Much more low-brow than my old username, but also more my style.
When I first started posting here, I was rather new to the internet, and I didn’t realize how much I’d like it here, so my username was basically my name in real life. As I hung around and got into some rather heated religious debates, it occured to me that maybe having my name out on the web in a place where people could find out where I lived, not to mention way to much other information about me might not be the best idea. My friends do call me “CJ” in real life, and I do have a certain tenacity, so “Siege” seemed entirely appropriate, especially since one friend was calling me that anyway. Given my rather bawdy sense of humor, it’s also got some wonderful possibilities for double entendres. However, despite the recent thread in GD, I deny that Fallujah was taken by Siege! I’ll have you know I was busy that weekend and, as jayjay pointed out, I would need at least a little help in taking on an entire city.
Why thank you. I quite like it. Bobby Lee even did a bit about how great and manly my name was when I saw him. And then he hugged me after the set. And he did indeed hold it for a beat too long.
I changed my username a while back. When I first joined, I didn’t know I’d be sticking around so long and enjoying it so much. I typed in something short and easy to remember, roxx222, when prompted, and that’s who I was for a while.
I finally changed my name to Antigen for all sorts of boring reasons, and I don’t regret it one bit. I don’t cringe when I see it written, and it has a nice ring to it. Not as clever as some of the other Doper names, but that’s ok with me.
It is a tough decision to make, because you can only make one name change. So, if you really hate the name you have now, be very sure you like the new one you’re choosing. It’s sort of like being really sure you want a tattoo before you get a dragon permanently inked on your back. Because you’re stuck with it after that.
I changed my name from Tretiak, people would think it was fromt he movie *The Saint[/i whcih I never saw, but instead it was inspired by the famous coalie of the Russian Red Army teams. But I never liked it so I changed to Gangster Octopus in reference to the Poochie episode of the Simpsosn (I understand that now there is a Gangster Octopus in the movie Shark Tale).
Have you ever changed your doper name? What was it before, if you care to share?
No. No.
Why did you change your doper name?
No.
Are you glad you changed it? Or do you wish you had left it as it was?
No. No.
If you haven’t changed your name, have you considered it? Why?
No. I like my name. But if you forced me to change it, I would change it to Nightwatch Trailer’s Sock Puppet. Kidding.

Is this really a hard decision to make? Or do I need to get a life?*
Yes, it’s hard. This is a life. Instead of changing your name, why not start a thread titled ‘Change your SDMB User Name - Hassle-free!’ And just invite people to post the user name they would change to if they could do so without a hassle. You can post to it as often as you like.
I used to be trumpy303. That’s my old AOL username which was derived from one of my favorite MST3K episodes, #303 - Pod People. The alien in the movie was named Trumpy (for reasons that were never explained).
I changed it to Mr. Blue Sky as a tribute to my favorite band, The Electric Light Orchestra (who I like more than the Beatles (who I also like quite a lot)).
Have you ever changed your doper name? What was it before, if you care to share?
I spent my first two and a half of years on this board as beatle
Why did you change your doper name?
Damned if I really know, although the current one fits me better (think Lorne Greene). I did get to briefly use the sig, “The former beatle.”
Are you glad you changed it? Or do you wish you had left it as it was?
I guess. I was a bit surprised to belatedly discover how much I’d come to identify with the old name. The change got at least one rather odd reaction (from dragonfly98 - I’m not dragging that one up tonight), and people kept answering me using beatle for a couple of years afterwards.
Have you no shame, sir? At long last, do you have no shame?
Ever changed mine? no.
But I’m thinking about it… like Octopus, some people wonder if I named myself after the character in Ma Vie En Rose, a movie that i’ve never seen (the answer’s “no”, btw.) No one here has asked me that but there’s always a first time (I’m known as it in multiple places.)
But the main reason I’m thinking about changing it is cause I found a wonderful replacement, one that I don’t even want to mention here lest it be taken (although it’s an extremely obscure reference.)
It sounds like the concensus is to leave it alone.
Is this human nature or what? But I never felt so compelled to do it until I figured out I could only do it once! Go figure.
Guess I just got a hankering for a new outfit. Then as I read through the responses I realized so many of the names who posted had come to be familiar and I realized how nice that is and smiled as I read.
I did go shopping for a new location though just to get it out of my system I have always been a huge Carl Sagan fan and reference to the Earth as just a pale blue dot has always resonated with me. Glad to be on the dot with you guys!
