Have you ever demanded your money back?

From a theatre or other entertainment venue? And did you get it?
I did for the movie 3 Ameigos. I got it too, as did 2 other groups of people that I saw.

Also, one time my wife and I stayed at a hotel that had a band in the lounge…a shitty band. When we checked out the next day my wife complained to the manager about the lousy entertainment that he gave us $30 off the bill.
She can be such a bitch! I love it!

How about you?

I have asked for, and recieved, free tickets to another show for complaining about things the theatre had control over. (sound quality, etc…)

I’ve never asked for anything because the film sucked.

Once, I had to bitch out some employees at a McDonald’s because THREE of the cheeseburgers they sold us were still clearly frozen in the middle (not just uncooked… FROZEN. Cold and hard), which wouldn’t have pissed me off, EXCEPT they had the balls to say that frozen meat wasn’t their problem. Finally, the manager just tossed a five dollar bill at me, and with a smile and a polite “Thank you for your cooperation”, I gathered my stuff and left.

Okay, I didn’t “bitch them out” since there were kids there… however, I did let them know that the customer is always right, consarnit!

I ask for my money back all the time. Usually get it too. Sometimes the trick is to just say, “I want my money back”. Then they will go get a manager and he/she will usually give you your money to make you leave.

I got my money back a few weeks ago when I went to see The Patriot. The sound went off in the middle of the movie for almost five minutes for no obvious reason! Of course I stayed and watched the movie and asked for my money back when it was over.

I also asked for my money back from a hotel I stayed the night at. I had no hot water and they began the renovations on the floor right above mine at 8:00 in the morning with a hammer.

Never for a movie or anything like that, but I did demand my money back in a hotel in Norfolk, and they did give it to me.

I’m terrible! I won’t even ask for my money back on defective merchandise 90% of the time.

My best friend, however, has NO problem asking for her money back, and bitching a lot to managers, etc. I have no doubt that they see her as a tremendous pain in the butt, but she does get things accomplished. Anytime I get bad service, or a poor product, I always wish that she was there too.

Generally no, its too time consuming to argue about it. Often they give me too much change & I let them know that & give it back. But I have been to supermarkets that don’t scan the ad price & asked for it back. but you have to talk to the store manager about it & if its just 50 cents, barely worth mentioning it even though everyone else is paying full price.

My ex- and I stayed at a motel once where there were plenty of problems. The bathtub was full of ants. The toilet didn’t work properly. There were more inconveniences, but the worst was that the key card reader crapped out with us locked outside. Kitty and bird were inside. Kitty was crying.

First the maid came with her key. No dice. Then the maintenance guy, then the manager. Fugghedaboutit. That door wasn’t going to open for nobody. Finally, the maintenance guy pounded on the door with a sledgehammer until he forced it open. Of course the doorjamb is mangled and the door will now not shut. (There were no other rooms anywhere in town, as people has fled there to escape hurricane Fran).

Anyway, the mananger refused any kind of refund! He said I’d have to wait around for the head manager, and no, he didn’t know when he would be by. I ended up protesting through my credit card and had the charges waived.

When I saw Sixth Sense for the first time, as the Theatre was having renovations done to them, there was a lot of dust around.

But just as they were coming up to the scene where the kid says “I see dead people” the fire alarm went off, caused by the dust!

It went beeping and ringing for about ten minutes while all the staff just stood around, not advising anyone of what was happening until someone demanded it of them.

So I asked for my money back (as did a few others) and got it, and then a week later went to a different theatre to watch the movie in peace.

we were at the dining experience from hell once (few wilted pieces of lettuce left at the salad bar, the soup tureen had a cloth napkin dangling in it, the rolls were hard as rocks, the appetizer of mushrooms stuffed with crab was so dry the crab poked you, finally, they said “we’re out of what you ordered”, so picked something else, when the fish finally came there were ice crystals in the center. We asked for something with the corporate address on it, the waiter said “oh, good, they’ll probably give you a free meal”. we said, in unison “Here? nevermind”.

BUT. On another occasion, we were on a “Comedy cruise”, 3 hours (start humming Gilligan’s theme). Open bar, so lots of drunks, but the sound system was so lousy unless you were right up by the comedian, you couldn’t hear anything they said. and you couldn’t leave. I called them up first business day afterwards and got a refund of the total price.

I’ve demanded money back several times and never been turned away. Once was at a hotel where the water in the shower was SO DAMNED HOT I got a blistering burn from it. (No, I’m not an idiot. I was really tired, ran a shower, stuck my hand under to test the water and was scalded.) The water ran so hot that I’ll bet it was close to boiling, I’m not kidding. I told them that it was EXTREMELY dangerous- what if it was a kid washing her hands? (It was that hot out of the tap, too. It was difficult to run it so that it wasn’t boiling hot). They didn’t make me pay for the room, and I turned them in to their local health department (who I assumed sent someone to check or passed the complaint on to the appropriate person).

That was the most memorable. They wouldn’t get the manager at first, so I said I would just plant my ass right on the floor in front of the desk and let other guests know not to plan on taking a shower there. They located the manager VERY quickly. My poor husband…

My wife is ruthless when it comes to hotel rooms. We’ve had to get money back two or three times.

Raddison New Orleans, for example. Called to get a crib 8 times. Wrote down each time, and the reaction. Never did get the crib, and didn’t pay for the room the next morning. They’d overbooked bad and were getting hammered by all the guests actually showing up. Should have known better.

I’ve had to demand money back for defective goods and meals, but I really have to take off my hat to my wife. When she and I once had a bad meal, she refused to pay and got away with it. Simple enough, but this was in Paris…where not paying for your meal is the closest thing they have to a capital offence.

Yeah! Stick it to the Frogs!

(Unless your wife is French; then, umm, Good job for a reasonable assertion of your rights as a restaurant patron.)

Saturday we had dinner after hiking in nearby mountain town- it took 2 hours! My daughter’s burger was stiff, and my eggplant parmesan was floating in oil. The waitress comped us my husband’s beer. Not good enough. I was too tired to deal so I need to write them a letter.

I have asked for, and received my money back in a number of instances for stuff that I have bought. But one of the funniest things that happened to me is I had bought a Papermate refil for my Papermate pen. When I got it home, it would not write. I did not feel like driving all the way back to the store where I bought it. (It was 75 miles away). So I wrote a letter explaining the problem, put the refil in a heavy envelope along with the letter and sent it off, never expecting the hear a word from them. About three weeks later, I receieved a small package in the mail. Inside was a “we’re sure sorry” letter and 2 new refils. I thought to myself, “wow, beefing helps”. Neither of the new refils worked either. I gave up and bought a BIC pen for 59 cents.
