I know lots of friendships and marriages have sprouted here. How about business deals? Seems like there is such a great mix of skills here, there must be a successful business just waiting to happen if a couple of people joined forces. Have you ever done it?
Nope, and not really practical for me. I’m pretty sure I’m the only lawyer here with a license to practice in my state, and I’m not really interested in trying to get admitted elsewhere.
Well, I’m a music producer and mix engineer by trade, and I’m about to do a mix for a fellow doper next week. But I wouldn’t call it business, as there’s no money involved and I volunteered to do it.
But it is a mix, and that is what I do for a living…so, kinda fits.
I have my own successful business building Web applications, and Athena is a successful freelancer doing the same thing (along with Mr. Athena), and we partner up from time to time. Right now they’re doing 2 projects for us. We’ve never met IRL, even.
Not “partners”, but I have patronized a couple of Doper-owned businesses because I like the posters who own them.
I’ve hired at least one doper for some contract software work. It worked out well.
Not yet, but I’d love to start.
I’m a freelance copywriter, and I imagine that Dopers as clients would be a good set of folks to work with, on average (especially since I focus on informative-persuasive copy and not hypey health or financial stuff).
