When i was about ten and had learned my Dad had fought in a war I thought it was a straightforward thing to ask him from the back seat of the car “Dad? Have you ever killed anybody?”
“Of course” he replied. But he understandably didn’t want to go into details so we spoke no more about it.
Only now am I considering the albeit remote possibility that he might not have been referring to his army days.
