This modern-looking home is on the market. I’m still trying to wrap my head around it being built without a bathroom. My house is twice as old and has 1 1/2 bathrooms.
nope. never seen a house without a bathroom.
You sure it isn’t just a data entry error?
Building a house without a bathroom is a code violation. It’s got to be a mistake on the listing. From the picture, it’s got a soil stack vent on the roof, so it’s got indoor plumbing.
Are you sure it’s not just a typo in the listing? (I can’t get the page to work properly and can’t be arsed to muck with it.)
I’ve lived in a couple of older farmhouses that had bathrooms added much later than the original house, but none that came without them completely.
My aunt built a house in the 70s without bathrooms - but it was in the end of nowhere Minnesota, and she was a bit odd.
I haven’t thought that it’d be a data entry error. If it is, the owners are probably wondering why they haven’t received a single inquiry yet.
Must be a typo, or else whoever was entering the information had conflicting reports and wasn’t sure what to put.
Not in real life, but the one bathroom for the six kids in the Brady Bunch house lacked a bath and a toilet.
Yeah… If I ran across that listing, my first thought would be “It doesn’t say how many bathrooms there are,”* not *“It doesn’t have any bathrooms!”
Coz I just gotta know sometimes - have asked real estate person.
The link shows a single bathroom when I looked at it. Must have been an entry error when you saw it.
What do you think the sink is for?
Define modern. My grandfather built a house in New Brunswick, Canada in the nineteen teens that had no internal plumbing (or electrcity, for that matter). My mother was born there and the family lived there full-time until the 1940’s. Got electrified in the 1960’s, but never had plumbing.
There’s plumbing Canada? Well fancy that!
Did she have an outhouse? Just shat in the yard? Inquiring minds need to know!
There are 2, according to another site.

I live in an apartment with no real bathroom. We have a weird cheap deal because the apartments need to be renovated (duh, there’s no bathroom). They’ve put in an odd sort of shower unit in the hall to make it liveable. The houses date from the 1920s and apparently most other people on the block had some form of bathroom installed at some stage, but the freaks who lived there before us… didn’t.
So although there is a shower and a toilet, there is no bathroom.
I think a shower and a toilet count as 3/4 of a bathroom in US real-estate language. However, I’d be surprised if a 2-bedroom house with a garage only had that.
Ha…I grew up in Jacksonville, NC. There were plenty of reasons why I escaped small town NC life, but a lack of bathrooms wasn’t one of them.
A little sleuthing suggests that the listing has the address wrong, too. Google Depressing Street View seems to show that crap shack as 2961 Burgaw Hwy, a property that Onslow County elsewhere lists as having 2 bathrooms.
Plumbing and Electricity are required in most zoning areas. Some places issue a Certificate of Occupancy after a home is built & inspected.
People frown on taking a dump in the backyard these days. Maybe 100 miles out in the boondocks you might get away with no plumbing.
I’ve even read newspaper articles where someone living in a house without utilities had to move or find the money to get them turned on. Its so dangerous to use the bathroom all the time outside.
