Which is why neither I nor anyone else ever went barefoot as a kid in West Texas. Honestly, I always scratched my head at stories of bygone days when kids did just that. I could never figure out how that worked. Even in our fenced-in backyard, we couldn’t rid ourselves of those things, and it was not uncommon for our dog to come limping up and us have to pull a sticker out of its paw.
Probably never had shoes, and the soles of their feet toughened up.
I have seen kids here, play soccer, barefoot on asphalt.
I wouldn’t last 15 seconds.
Definitely have. Never anything serious, I was always only walking and I reflexively pulled my weight off my foot before it penetrated. They’re usually darker in color were I live so I call them ‘death stars’…
Oh, yeah. And ridden my bike through them. Central Valley. We used to call them puncture vine.
