Have you experienced any pail relief from using Blue Emu Cream w/o any side affects? I have a stiff neck and shoulder pain like I slept wrong since I c/n relate it to work. I do Firewood work and Auto maintenance almost weekly and have had pains I could relate vs this one. The Dr recommended Soma or Aleve and felt the pain would be gone in 4 days. Two weeks later the pain is still here. Physical Therapy was ordered and they just worked me in today (4 weeks of pain).
The pain started in my sleep with lots of sweating. The lots of sweating repeated a week later with less pain “that night”. The Therapist feel the problem is in my neck due to bad posture from her testing. She will get started next week but I am trying to get some relief from pain now. The Soma and Aleve seemed to help more initially than now. Basic pain creams have worked in the past but not much this time.
“Blue Emu Cream” looks like the DMSO of the 2010’s.
Since I don’t think any topical ointment or cream product that was supposed to carry pain relievers or other compounds to deep tissues has been shown to work, staying with oral NSAIDS and painkillers is probably safer and more effective.
Ask your Physical Therapist to try BioFreeze. I haven’t met a PT yet who doesn’t have a handful of little packets of BioFreeze in their bag. It’s seriously good stuff.
If the BioFreeze works, head over to Dollar Tree and try their “Ice Cold” for a buck. If that works, great. If not, ask your PT to order you some BioFreeze, or get it online. It’s impossible to find in stores, at least where I live. It works better for some people, but the two are very similar, only BioFreeze is a lot more expensive and harder to get.
If BioFreeze and Ice Cold don’t work, then go to the drugstore and get something that has capsaicinin it. Some people find more relief from a sensation of heat than a sensation of cold.
My third choice is Aspercreme. It’s…meh. A few people like it. Most don’t.
No, Blue Emu Cream is not useful, except to treat dry skin, as any oil based cream is. It doesn’t have anything in it that can penetrate the skin and act as an analgesic, like Aspercreme. It doesn’t even have a counter irritant, like cayenne or menthol. These don’t carry anything into “deep tissues,” but they don’t need to. They just need to shout louder than the nerve fibers that carry pain signals, to block the *sensation *of pain. They don’t actually heal anything, but they confuse the brain enough to take the pain away for a bit.
I have long experience with pain and can say emu creams provide some relief for about half an hour. Aspercreme is somewhat more effective, plus the heavy mineral oil in it is great for a working persons dried out hands. The various nsaids are all a little different, Advil is great for sore joints and muscle aches, Excederin Migraine works well with migraine and neck pain. My Dr. told me I could take four 3 times a day if needed, sometimes I do, that’s basically prescription strength. Everybody ought to try salmon oil, repeat salmon oil not fish oil, Carlson is a choice brand, it’s a great anti-inflammatory. And remember, nobody ever promised us a life without pain…
Just about every higher-end massage spa place around me sells BioFreeze. You can go on the BioFreeze website and pop in your ZIP code and they’ll have a list of retailers (almost all seem to be massage therapists or spas).
Yes, they specifically sell only through doctors, chiropractors, PTs and massage therapists. I’d rather get it off Amazon than set foot in a high end spa.
Of the 2010s? I though the whole Blue Emu fad died at least 12-13 years ago. My wife bought a jar of it at least 15 years ago. It turned out to be worthless.
