Ha! I used to have a stereo that spontaneously turned itself on once or twice a week. Dominic had an electronic Dinosaur toy once that used to start walking and roaring all by itself on occassion.
He also once had some remote-controlled thing that the controller totally didn’t work for, but our TiVo remote could control (off topic, but funny anyway)
When I first moved into my current apartment, I kept seeing things out of the corner of my eye (shadows?). I thought that my eyes were playing tricks on me, until one evening, while entertaining a gal, she mentioned that she saw a cat run across the floor, but there was nothing there. She freaked out when I told her that I, too, had seen some weird things in the apt.
A former coworker of mine had an experience that about her late mom, who died in January 2000. Every time the family ( mainly her and her dad) would talk about her mom, the lights would flicker on and off in the house. No one else was home to pull any pranks.
Another one that happened to her recently was ( she is currently unemployed) laying on the floor doing sit ups while watching TV. Suddenly the TV turned off. It wasn’t a power failure and the cable didn’t go out, the plug, she thought, fell out of the socket. She plugged it back in and went back to doing her lackidaisical situps and watching Daytime TV. Then it happened again, the plug was soon on the floor like someone yanked it out. She knew that she put the plug in tight. She plugged it in and was very creeped out. She decided it was her mother telling her she was watching too much TV.
We have a family geneology book that is about three inches thick that covers our family and members of our family that I’ve never heard of. As a kid I use to love reading this book just to see my name on a page. Our branch of this immense family never sent in anything other than name, birth and that’s it. Very dull. But some families sent in interesting stories. The one that always sticks in my mind is a family member who was a priest was saying mass ( this is about 1920’s) and right smack dab in the middle of everything says, " Bob Smith ( whoever) has just died" and sure enough, at that exact moment in his own home that person just passed away." It’s always stuck with me.
Probably my most annoying experience: I have this weird ability to predict what shows will be on television. Every so often, some specific episode of a sitcom (say, the Simpsons) will pop into my head. When I turn on the TV later that day, boom, that episode is running. (And no, I hadn’t checked the listings.)
I can’t force it…they just come to me. If only I could channel this power for good…
Oh, also, when I was younger, this “thing” in my bedroom would grab me at night. Often I’d wake up with an inexplicable pressure on my chest, and I’d be unable to scream, move, or even breathe. One time, I swear I woke up floating a few feet over my bed.
The skeptic in me keeps muttering something about my overactive imagination. Oh well, Biotop’s story was much cooler.
Someone mentioned premonition and it reminded me of another one of my ex’s stories.
He swears that when he was a kid he had a dream about a space shuttle exploding. The next day in school they were watching a launch on TV and he told his teacher that he had to go to the bathroom, that the shuttle was going to explode and he didn’t want to see it. When he came back everyone was crying. The Challenger had exploded.
I also had a teacher who one day came in to tell us that she’d gone to see a movie and had a weird feeling of deja vu. Then she realized that she knew everything that was happening in the movie before it happened, and she could say the lines before they were said. The night before she’d dreamed the entire movie!
It could be supernatural, I guess… Never really cared one way or another.
Ok where to start…
Back when I lived in Alaska (around 1st or 2nd grade) I was at my best friend’s house (he lived across the street). We were heading up to play in the ‘play room’ which was up the stairs and ALL the way down the hall, past all of the bedrooms. I looked in his sister’s room, which was on the left side of the hall (oh it was the younger of the two girls, Holly?) and I saw her head. Floating about 8 inches off the bed spread. It suddenly noticed me looking at it, and the eyes… changed… I walked fairly quickly down to the play room. My friend and I were the only ones there.
About once ever few years I can adress people I’ve never seen before by first name. Every decade it happens in reverse. It’s kinda freaky when someone out of the blue comes up to you and starts talking about your life, and catching up and you’ve never seen them before. But you talk like you’re old friends. (the fomer has happened about 10 times the latter 4)
Summer before college my gf and I were driving back after seeing a play, we lived up in a rural part of Woodinville on the side of a valley w/ lots of trees. So think dark, foggy and no cars or visible houses from the part of the road we were on.
We both saw I guy wearing this wierd luminscent white/blue plaid blanket over him. But we only saw him in the rear view mirror. We couldn’t see out the windows. And when I hit the breaks hard he didn’t show up in the breaklights (and he wasn’t far behind us).
I was chased by something in the ruins of a castle in scotland… Ya know the castle where the ‘elemental’ is supposed to live.
Also in England, you know that cursed castle. The one with the secret room with the curse? Where if it’s opened the master of the castle will die and his wife will go blind? (And its happened each time they tried).
Well on tour there I found the door to the secret room. The tour guide noticed I wandered away from the group and started poking around the wood moulding at a wall and he got kinda nervous and told me to get away. Turns out that’s where the door to the room is.
This may not be supernatural, but I think it’s close enough.
Cats used to wink at me. I’m not saying that I saw a few cats cats moistening one eye while looking in my general direction. I’m saying there was a period of about five years where every single cat I ever came across would stare at me directly and wink. Every single cat. I didn’t know what to make of it then (other than to be mildly unnerved) and I don’t know what to make of it now. It no longer happens, however, so I suppose I will never figure out what it meant.
In a few of my previous residences, I had to share a room with another guy. I was asleep one night when I had the sensation of someone (or something) sitting on my bed near my feet. This woke me up, of course, and nothing was there and the other guy was in his bed on the other side of the room. I did notice some weird light up in the corner of the room but that may have been the moon reflecting off something outside.
I’ve been a student of the supernatural for as long as I was old enough to read. I’ve always loved creepy things.
I would love to experience something that I would consider supernatural. Unfortunately, I never have. Whether my cynical nature interprets anything supernatural as merely natural, or whether I’ve never been privy to a supernatural experience, I couldn’t say.
Back in the day when I was young, single and on the prowl nightly for female companionship, I met a nice young lady around happy hour and managed to get back to her house by 8 PM.
Was back at the bar by 11 PM and found myself another little hottie and was at her place by Midnight!
Thats Supernatural!
There is nothing “secret” or “special” about 1,000 Island Dressing.
Two years ago I was doing a documentary project for my photo clas on the local cemetery. This was in the autumn and I was getting there at the crack of dawn to get the eeriest light…
One morning I was laying on my stomach shooting a grave marker when I heard crunch, crunch, crunch in the leaves behind me. I thought “Oh its just a worker coming to see if I am a drunk or something.” So I raised up on to my knees and turned around. Not a person to be seen ANYWHERE! Nothing around but a patch of leaves and a bunch of headstones…
I guess to my credit I didn’t run out of there… but I did move to a new area to continue shooting.
Both of my parent died this last year. Mom in Sept and Dad in Feb… anyway about 3 weeks after Mom died I dreamed I was in her house and her and I were chatting. Mom said" That’s a very beautiful pot you picked out for me" and gestured up to the shelf where in the real world Dad had put her urn. And there was the urn! By all that’s holy, I sat bolt upright in bed and didn’t sleep a bit the rest of the night.
Since then she has dropped by my dreams to tell me about the wonderful house she has, to inquire about her grandson and to go to lunch with me…
Sorry, I was in a hurry when I submitted my last reply. I was going to mention the pictures one of my sisters took one Christmas Eve as the family opened their presents. When the pictures were developed, each one had at least one colored streak on it. Maybe the lights from the tree refracted somehow in the lens or maybe my uncle Buddy who died earlier that year paid us a visit.
