I’m 45. My GP is with the Cleveland Clinic. I have to do a “pre-check-in” online before my visits. They’ve been asking me about falls ever since the system was implemented a few years ago. They ask whether or not I’ve fallen, whether or not my visit is related to Workers’ Comp, and do I need an interpreter for my visit. They also ask several questions about whether or not I can do basic tasks at home, how much I exercise, and stuff about my general mood.
I have also been asked if I feel safe at home, but not this time. This last questionnaire asked me about food security.
They show you a score afterwards and also compare it to your last score.
I think if you don’t fill them out online before your visit, the PA asks you all this stuff before the doctor comes in. I’m not sure tho, because I always answer online.
But yeah, regardless of my age (or, for everyone over 40?) they ask me about falls. That’s just how they roll.
Um, all the time? Sometimes your mind wanders or you don’t pick your foot up enough or any number of things. It’s a common joke in the running community.
Now, if you’re falling like that every run, there’s a problem. Once every 50 runs is probably nothing. I agree with you it’s best to be honest with the doctor so he can help assess if it’s a balance issue.
Well that’s reassuring! Yeah it is infrequent. And I pop back up like it never happened fine! But now longer young I get bruises that look impressive from even minor things …
Last time I recall falling while running (one of those gas pipes or something in the middle of the sidewalk) I went down splat yet protected my phone (and hands) by not falling like that middle picture. Even the little bit of martial arts classes I had first teach you how to fall (then how to throw someone!)
Shot by a cannon? Grape-shot for real or Daffy Duck shooting me? IRL runners in motion who react like they were shot probably just blew a hamstring. Mostly runners who accelerate like in baseball going to first base.
My one priority when falling, whether it is running, or the last spill taking a turn on my bike on wet pavement a bit too fast and sliding out, is keeping my head high. Break the phone, even a bone (neither has ever happened) is a less concern.
As you have got that song in me 'ead, have some back
He drinks a whiskey drink
He drinks a vodka drink
He drinks a lager drink
He drinks a cider drink
He sings the songs that remind him of the good times
He sings the songs that remind him of the better times
I get knocked down (we’ll be singin’)
But I get up again (pissin’ the night away)
You’re never gonna keep me down (when we’re winnin’)
I get knocked down (we’ll be singin’)
But I get up again (pissin’ the night away)
You’re never gonna keep me down (ooh-ooh-ooh)
