It’s not really a “beach” or surf song, but one that is more a part of the novelty genre (although it towers over its feeble competitors in this regard).
Besides, it had a beat and you could dance to it.

You may be thinking of The Rivingtons. This is The Trashmen. Or is it the other way around?
Weren’t the Rivingtons first with The Bird’s The Word? I’m hoary enough with age to remember buying their Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow when it first came out, followed, unless I’m mistaken, by Mama-Oom-Mow-Mow. Ah, they just don’t write’em like that any more!
Rivingtons were first.
check it again!
I think the thing that made me think of beach songs was the drums. The drumming in that song is typical of what I think of when I think of 60’s-era beach or surf related songs.
P.S. - And now that I think about it, the lyric “Surfin’ (Surfer?) Bird” might have a little to do with that impression too.
This thread needs more bird!
“Aesthetics is for artists what ornithology is for birds.” Barnett Newman
Back when Larry Bird played for Indiana State University, that song was ALL OVER the local radio stations. Annoying as hell.
Yes, I’ve heard. In fact, I’ve heard known to flip off the bird on occaision.
Pre-Internet meme…
Bird Bird Bird, I say the bird is the word!
I went to the grocery store yesterday afternoon and this f’ing song was running through my mind the whole time because of this thread.
Yes, but only because of “Family Guy.”
My punishment for posting in this thread will be similar to Ike’s.
Seth McFarlane has heard about the bird. Twas a great episode.
I don’t know much, but I do know that it’s got the latest groove and it’s really clean.
And the kids think its the keenest!
