I think of GQ thread topics all the time, usually at my boring factory job where there’s nothing to occupy my thoughts. I’ll be thinking of how best to phrase the question, how to make it concise yet descriptive, wondering if it’s been asked before and what the best search terms would be…but then if I’ll be so curious that I’ll start walking about asking everyone in sight whatever my question is, and eventually I find out that way or with a quick googling.
So, does thinking about starting threads count for anything?
I do the checking Google thing, too, and it stops me from posting quite often. I just like the variety of posts, and would rather more than less. Also, because most people do not personally know each other in “real life” here, it seems that we should not be shy about starting a topic. But I try to do a search first. I like to see if someone in Cafe covered a movie I saw before making any comments about it.
Hey Everybody!!! Look at Eternal’s post!!!
I even quoted the whole thing so you’d get another chance. I just LOVE reading Eternal’s posts! WE ALL LOVE ETERNAL!!!Eternal is so smart and attractive. I want to go on a date with Eternal!!!
Close your eyes give me your hands, Darling Do you hear my heart beating? Do you unterstand? Do you feel the same? Am I only dreaming???
I’ve never started a thread. Eh, I’ve thought about it from time to time, but most of the ones flitting around in my head at that point had been done–sometimes to death.
Many times I’ll get in a snit, and want to start a rant in the Pit, but then I go see who or what topic is the roast du jour and I think better of it.
I have just submitted a thread. Gosh that was scary. But I thought that I should share here since you guys gave me courage. I will let you know how it goes (maybe even start a thread abouot it–Oh, no, now I have become obsessed! Someone help me :)).
I’ve started a mere 2 threads. One at 100 posts exactly the other near 200. I wonder if it’s going to be a habit of mine to do a thread every 100 posts.
I’ve probably started 7 or 8 threads. Of these, one of them was one of those annoying GD threads where the OP never returns to defend his position (it wasn’t my fault! I suffered from a total brain crash the day after posting and wasn’t capable of coherently debating for days to follow.), one of them resulted in me getting utterly roasted by everyone who entered the thread (which was a bit bizarre…), and the rest flopped.
On most of the other MBs I’ve ever visited, my contribution usually tends to kill the conversation stone dead. So starting a thread would be dangerous for my image. People may think I’m talking to myself.
I might have started 7 or 8 threads. Most of them were flops. Shortly after I joined, in someone else’s thread, I asked why some threads were started by newbies on their first post. Chronos replied that it wasn’t a matter of how many posts your have, it just seems to be something some members are good at and some are not.
I would point out that despite the fact that Tomndebb doesn’t seem to be good at starting threads, he is one of the best at making them informative and interesting. I guess we should all stick to what we’re good at.
