Have you NOT started any threads at SDMB?

It took me a while to start threads on the SDMB, and I really don’t start as many as others. I think I hold back because I figure that the topic must have already been discussed. So I am curious. Have you never started any threads on SDMB? This could be a repeat topic, but there are always new people. (duh!) And if you never have, then why? Perhaps this is a poll.

So! Is it safe to assume that EVERYONE has started a thread here? :dubious:

Not moi

I’ve been here for three years now, and I think I’ve started maybe 2 threads. No real reason I’m aware of for not starting more. But now that I think about it, I’m the same ‘in real life’… much better at participating in a conversation than starting one.

No Maam, never have started one. I’m sort of shy.

I don’t think I have. But I could have forgotten about it.

Every time I do they flop. People keep ignoring me.

I am threadless. Part of it is the Eyeore thing of “Some one has probably already statred a thread and it was so much better than I could ever post and then everyone will come in and tell me how much better the other post is. Ho hum.” And part of it is the reaction that I think I would get: “Why on Og’s green and bountiful earth did you think THAT was interesting? Guard, there appears to be something icky on this message board, kindly get rid of it.”

That and I can’t spell, and know I would be mocked for my lack. And I would make some dumb error that would end up haunting me forever. “Hey, aren’t you the kid who spelled your own name wrong? Hey, look everyone, it is the kid who can’t spell her own name!”

Or maybe I am just a paranoid who thinks too much

I was going to say I hadn’t – but, upon further recollection, I’ve started one. It was in GQ and asked who the Queen of England was that they’re singing about in Carmina Burana. (We’re not sure.)

Still, since I have nearly 1200 posts, that’s not bad…

It took me a couple hundred posts, as I recall, before I “got up the nerve” to post a thread.

And when I do start one, I find myself obsessively checking it, so I never start a thread unless I know I’ll have time to check back on its growth.

No threads for me yet. I am a compulsive lurker.

Yes, I’ve not started one yet.

But then, I’m new. Maybe I’ll psyche myself up for it.

My first ever post was actually a new thread. It bombed. But that’s pretty much me in real life too - just dive straight in impulsively without a thought to the consequences.

Not yet… mind you, it’s only been a few days, give me time!

My second post to someone elses thread did get what I would call an unkind response… I’ve since noticed that particular person does that a lot though. Seems there are people on here who enjoy putting people down… who’d have thought it?

As far as thread starting goes…I’m a lurker.

The reason I signed up was to post a thread, which I ended up doing eight months after I signed up.

Kymodoce, don’t let that experience put you off. There are some unkind people on the boards but they’re in the minority. Oh, and welcome to the boards.

No thread starting yet…in fact this is my first post. Wow, how courageous of me.

Lurk lurk lurk

I haven’t started one yet. A few days ago I thought about starting one with the same question, but I didn’t because that woukd have changed my own answer to this question.
So thanks for asking this now.

Welcome to the boards, Ofnsve!

I’ve never started a thread, because I don’t feel I’d have anything to contribute. Whenever I think of something I want to say, I ask, “Would this be better in my live journal?” Yes, so I post it there.

I intend to start a thread celebrating my 1000th post. Working on a topic.

I had a thread the second day I joined…right now there’s the “Predict the Death of the previous Poster” one, it’s starting to scare me a bit however…
