Orange vanilla Coke is a real thing. Saw the commercial for the first time just yesterday.
I won’t be trying it, although I’ll drink cherry coke or lime coke, if I must.
When I was ten years old, we lived close to an old fashioned soda parlor. The owner would add any syrup he had to your soft drink. We though that was absolutely cool, tried them all, and then started mixing them.
Gin and grapefruit are just a nice combination in general. We don’t really get much grapefruit soda out here in the states (Squirt, maybe? Is Frescsa grapefruit? What about 50/50? I think that’s half grapefruit and half another citrus. I know I can look it up, but it’s more fun leaving the question open). But, yes, gin is made for grapefruit and any bitter-sweet types of liquid (obviously, tonic.)
Squirt is definitely grapefruit soda, and is quite popular in Oregon for some reason.
Gin and fresh squeezed grapefruit juice makes one great tall drink, especially if the rim of the glass is dipped in coarse salt. I think this is called a “salty dog,” but you may have to specify gin, because the vodka drink has the same name.
You make it strong enough or with clear moonshine/high-test-proof vodka and just anything you would normally drink would make a good drink; at least to me.
In my day, it was about half a shot of Bailey’s poured into shot of Strawberry Schnapps, then a generous drop of grenadine. We called them Brain Hemorrhages. I shudder to recall.
I had a bartender at a craft distillery mix me a black russian with their house-made coffee liqueur and their “not tequila” agave spirit instead of vodka. Turns out I wasn’t the first to think of this–google tells me it’s called a “Brave Bull”. But it was damn good.
