Have you served in the military?

ARMY in 61. Did not miss the brown shoe ARMY by much.

6 Years USMC, but all of it as a candy-assed reservist.

US Air Force 2003-2011. I was a jet engine mechanic on C-5s and C-17s.

13yrs, USMC, Artillery.

8 years in the Marine Reserves, no active duty though

Conscripted for a year, like >75% of the guys in my generation.
After that, ten years in the Home Guard with annual 1-week repetition exercises and all my personal gear stashed at home. Including a fully functional assault rifle and 100 live rounds.

3 years regular service in the IDF (infantry).
17 years - and counting - in the reserves.

Did that have an adverse effect on your hearing ? Just curious..

What did you say?

11 years Army Reserve and National Guard - Artillery

Note that while according to most statistics less than 10% of the population have served in the military, more than 30% of the Dopers voting so far have served/are serving. That is more than triple than national average.

I believe it was my very first ironic experience. I had no idea what the Seabees were when I joined. In 23 years, I never set foot on a ship.

Active Duty Army.

Fried bologna on cold white toast sandwiches, wiping with your spare socks when there was no toilet paper, toilets overflowing and flooding the deck with turds that wash back and forth with the ocean swells, 1,250 guys jammed into a container the size of a small school builing; all with communicable head colds. You didn’t miss anything much.

ETA: getting “greased” as an initiation rite. (not surprising I blocked that one out)

March AFB-professional food service serving three hots a day, deep fried chicken and double cheeseburgers, veggies of every type, fresh milk, and six varieties of pie.

Got awfully close to going into the Air Force as an officer, but veered off at the last moment–I got fed up with some BS they were giving me over a minor medical issue I was honest/stupid enough to disclose at the physical. This was right after 9/11, I’m walking in to volunteer, and you’re making me jump through hoops because I have hearburn? :dubious:

The Air Force has always had the best food and the best recreation facilities.

However comma

“I want you to fuck me, but I want you to keep your uniform on!”

Any zoomies ever had that said to them?

Yes, in the bay of a B-52D by a cute Lt. Colonel, while in flight. Why?

Same as you, Czar. Four-year Zoomie. Just don’t get me started on Veterans’ Rights and Plights.
