I’m trying to help my mom sell her diamond (it’s part of a ring). Ebay seems like the best choice to get more for it than a local broker.

I have an appointment to have the ring appraised locally (an independent, i.e., not a jewelry store). They can also do authentication.

Ebay has a jewelry selling guide, which is helpful. I thought I would ask Dopers in case you can share information with me from the standpoint of a buyer or seller.

You’re selling the whole ring, correct? Be sure to give as much information as possible which should be on the appraisal (including size of the ring). As many good pictures as possible. Good luck. :slight_smile:

I assume that the appraiser will give you a retail replacement value for insurance purposes. That’s the usual. But that value will be exceedingly high compared to what you can get a buyer to pay.
