Yep. Exactly a week after we turned the air conditioning off (for 90F+ days), we had to turn it on at night a couple of times, because temperatures went into the 30s and there were light frosts.
Southern Maine. No, not yet, although we did buy two cords of firewood yesterday. It’s been getting down to the low 40s at night (last night was 30s) but our house is extremely well insulated and the coldest it’s been inside was this morning, 62 degrees.
Park City Ut - We have been turning a gas fireplace on everynow and then for the last couple of weeks. We expect to put the heating on and set the thermostats in the next week or so as it looks like it will get below freezing at night from now on.
Jelous of enipla with the snow - the tops of the ski hills here have a light dusting and really hoping not to repeat last years slow start to the skiing.
South Florida. We finally turned off the AC on Thursday. It’s so nice to have the windows open! It’s still getting a tad bit hot for not having AC during the day (highs around 86F) but the lows are now in the low 70s. About 10 degrees cooler will be perfect. Come on, December!
Portland, OR and not yet. Even with the rain coming through and windows open, the house stays at about 72. We’ll go through a period of wearing an extra shirt in the house before we ever get to turning on the heat. On the other hand, on our trip to the coast last week, we had the RV heater on several times, particularly in the morning, when it was in the 40s.
Just got my heater and air conditioner replaced (the heater had been installed in 1978), so it was put through its paces a couple of weeks ago.
And last week the temps dipped to the low fifties overnight, so I turned it on more out of the desire to use the fancy new heater than out of necessity.
Yeah, I see where it hit 31 last night. My sister has had her heat on for some time now, and the leaves have been off the trees since early September. There’s nothing worse than freezing temperatures and no snow cover.
Columbus, OH. We turned it on for one night last week when it dropped to the low 40s overnight. Then I turned it back off again when the temp started to rise. It’s 86 F outside today. I’m more tempted to turn on the A/C then I am to turn on the heat.
We turned it on last weekend when we had a cold snap, but it’s not kicked on the last couple days because it’s gotten back in the 80’s during the days. That kind of up and down is pretty typical for Kentucky in the spring and fall.
Orlando, FL. No heat yet. It went down in the fifties outdoors, but it didn’t drop below 70 inside. Nice weather. I can walk in the afternoon and be comfortable. Last month, I was getting up and walking before dawn.
Southern Illinois. The thermostat is set so that the heat or A/C goes on depending on the temperature. The heat was on last week, and the air is on today.
Tell me about it. I work at a ski resort – from my location, if you ski, you know which one. 2008 was the worst since I’ve been here – we had to call a bunch of people and tell them, “We can’t open yet, but do you want to come up here anyway?” Some did, but a lot of people rescheduled or cancelled altogether. We didn’t open until something like December 8 that year. Thanksgiving is our normal open date.
The local paper ran a big article last week about how it’s supposed to be a good snow year. I nearly went over to the office and strangled them for tempting fate.
This thread came to mind because I just looked at the weather and it’s supposed to drop to 21F tomorrow night. Time to turn on the heat at least for that night, and to break out my actual winter coat. Ahhhhh.
