Have you turned on your heat yet?

We got our first snowfall yesterday. We were lucky, though - we had to leave town, and we drove into a nice sunny day. The snow is all gone today, mind you - just a warning shot across our bows.

Bwah, you guys. I’d move back to Anchorage in a heartbeat. If I were a single gal. And could immigrate and stuff.

Anyway, to be topical: I’ve acclimatized to Victoria, BC and the furnace has been on in the mornings to take the chill off for a few weeks now while I shower, and again in the evening when I arrive home. But we live in a doublewide, and I’m convinced it’s hot as hell in the summer and cold as metal in the winter.

At least we’re using the heat pump.

Heh. I WAS a single gal and one thing (if you’re a former Anchoragite, you know this one) we said about being a single gal in supposedly man-rich Alaska is “the odds are good, but the goods are VERY odd”. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be ready to date again, but I can already tell that if I do, I like the Seattle area men a HELL of a lot better than Alaskan men.

And I lived in Alaska for 40 years. I think I gave it a fair shot. giggle!

BTW, except for the zillion radar sites along the coast of Alaska, I couldn’t literally “see” Russia from my house. But I CAN see Canada from my current job site across the Strait of Juan de Fucas.

Oh, heck, no. We won’t turn the heat on until December, probably. It’s been cool enough at night to open the windows, and haven’t run the a/c for a couple of weeks now, but the temps are still in the high 80’s. (Central Mississippi)

Nope from the lovely empire of Appalachia! Will turn it on once the south-side room with all the plants in it will begin to hit 60 degrees on a regular basis… which wouldn’t be for another month yet.

No heat yet, here in Raleigh. This weather is one of the reasons I love this area so much. Perfectly clear, Carolina blue skies, with a crisp breeze and exactly the right temperature outside. We’ll have a high in the mid-70s today, with a low in the high 40s tonight. I have started putting on my wool socks at night and my husband chopped a whole bunch of firewood yesterday, plus I stocked up on the good hot cocoa mix & marshmallows. Fall is here!

Well I tried to, last night, but as usual, my furnace is acting up. Eight years I’ve lived here, and I’ve yet to make it through a winter without at least three furnace repairs. That’s not counting the twice-weekly trips to the basement to adjust the water level, or the the many times I’ve had to jump-start the friggin’ thing, because I only call the landlord when those things don’t work. Neither of those things worked last night. Grrr. And brrr.

Heat was on awhile ago, and earlier this week I turned it up and left for work. I return to a frozen tundra. WTF? The heat that was working perfectly before is not. Landlord won’t respond to emails or phone calls, but something tells me the threat of calling the bureau of building inspectors - who’ve been trying to get into a variety of the neighborhood’s buildings for awhile - will get his ass in gear. They will be* especially* eager to hear that he’s blocked the fire exit for months.

No heat here yet, but I too have furnace issues. If it was working, I’d probably turned it on during the day yesterday. But we have ours on sometimes for early mornings even in the summer; we can have as much as a 50 degree variance between day and night here, and I start getting chilly.
