Having laid low, the N.R.A. is fully prepped and rehearsed to control legislation. As usual.

And what’s the deal with a fuckin’ water cannon on the trucks? They need real cannons, 40mm at least.

It seems to be an obnoxious tendency in this debate (or all polarizing debates, I suppose) for people on both sides to lump their opponents into one easily stereotyped mass. Hence “those wonderful open-minded gun owners.” The 32,000 who’ve signed that moronic petition are an insignificant fraction of American gun rights advocates. Please, we’re not all morons. :stuck_out_tongue:

The tree of liberty will surely burn down when the right of firefighters to mortar their targets is impinged.

Instead of being blasted to wood chips as is right and proper.

And those pesky NY City gun laws prevent mounting real 50,000 gal/min water cannons on the trucks, the way they do on a couple of their boats.

Yesterday in my city - I don’t want to say which one, but - while I was out buying some lobsters, next to a moose underneath a pine tree, there was an open-carry activist who decided to take a stroll around one of our fairer, ok, let’s face it, shittier neighborhoods with an AR-15 over his shoulder. No reason. Just troll … I mean making a point.

Cops confronted him after several 911 calls but they didn’t do anything other than watch him until he left … after a three hour stroll.
Yay for AR-15s! You know, apropos of nothing.

Put his name on the list.

Headline from the past: Knife-Juggler at Sharon Tate’s Funeral Deemed “Tone-Deaf.”

True story.

Don’t send Piers Morgan back here. We think he’s a cnut.

Someone ought to douse him or punch him out, but not for his position on the NRA and guns.

The NRA “jump the shark” moment for me was when they started taking positions on taxation and supply side economics. They had already won the gun debate and needed a reason to continue existing.

Actually, the Cato Institute won the gun debate.

There are several extant threads here that didn’t get the memo, if indeed the NRA won the gun debate.

We also debate abortion, whether the US Civil War was about slavery, and the effectiveness of healing crystals, you know.

Simple. Stop liking money so damn much.

Does anyone else get the feeling that there’s a room in the NRA HQ in Virginia where there’s about a hundred interns sitting in front of laptops furiously posting to message boards, including this one?

Nah, they just come out of the woodwork every once in a while. Kinda cute, with their childlike faith that as soon as they apprise us of their clear common sense, we will fall all over ourselves to express our total agreement with their awesomeness. They lie dormant for months, sometimes, then suddenly there’s an outbreak, like cicada or head lice.

I know it seems like something directed, someone assigned to get on our case. But we are the SDMB, we aren’t important enough to infiltrate or subvert.

Yes.

I’d be at least a bit surprised if someone asserted that either side – except perhaps the “side” of status quo had won the abortion debate, just as I was with the claim that the NRA had won the gun control debate.

Do you believe the NRA won the gun control debate?

Conspiracy theory much?

Facts in evidence don’t constitute a “conspiracy theory.”
