A little slower paced, but I liked the contrasting parties, the Grand Opening of Verenus’ shop and Atia’s Welcome Home Caesar party.
Niobe’s lover is her sister’s husband? How did that happen? And was she urging him to take her sister home because she was getting drunk and out of hand at the party? I didn’t see her sister drink a lot (maybe I missed it) but I did see that she was dancing and flirting with other men.
We saw Caesar’s epilepsy. Was that well-known back then, or only noted by a few confidantes?
Loved that the slave woman got the wrong idea when Caesar and Octavian emerged together from that room. That’s how rumors get started.
So many great moments: Mark Antony’s full frontal nudity…smokin’ hot. The Caesar “cocksucker” graffiti, Pullo pulling into town like a pimp daddy, the amazing chemistry between Servilia and Caesar, so much going on.
How about Atia making Octvian eat his goat testicles?
'You won’t leave this room until you do."
There really were rumors of a sexual relationship between JC and Octavian, but the wacky misunderstanding in this episode was like a depraved episode of Three’s Company.
I don’t think anyone will have to translate the obscene graffiti this week.
Yeah, I liked this episode. The two parties were interesting, but left me wondering-- where in the social class structure are Lucius and his gang? Seems like what we’d call solidly middle class (or slightly upper-middle). The goat testicles scene was hillarious. After that, we all winced everytime someone was cutting something up: What will it be this time…?
I still think this show is missing something-- showing the grandness of what Rome was and how fantastically the upper class lived. The scenes inside the villas jsut seem way too small-- like they’re cloistered in tiny rooms.
But the politics is playing out nicely, and it definitely makes me want to see more.
Pimp-daddy Titus-- I like it!!
BTW, I wonder if the writers are playing with us a bit by choosing the names for our heroes with a bit of bilingual irony: Titus = “tight-ass” is anything but, and Lucius = “loose” is the straightest of straight arrows. What do you think? Having I been watching too much “Lost” and am now reading too much into this sort of thing?
Pullo’s so lucky. The only reason I wasn’t worried about him being killed for stealing the gold was because he’s a major character. Hard to believe he survived that.
Niobe sweeping up after the party – how much longer before an inventive housewife puts a handle on the broom? Since I broke my hip, I can’t squat. I guess that’s why that scene stuck out for me. It looked painful.
