So, a bit of a minor rant - it seems that the actor Domhnall Gleeson is in every movie I see lately.
I fly a lot and watch movies on the plane. Recently I caught “American Made”, the Tom Cruise as a pilot one, and Gleeson was the CIA handler. Next I saw “Mother!” and he popped up in a small but significant role as the son of Michelle Pfeiffer & Ed Harris (his real life brother plays his brother). Also available to watch is “Good Bye Christopher Robin” starring - Domhnall Gleeson as A.A. Milne.
Now I recall recently seeing him in the new Star Wars series, in “The Revenant”, and “Brooklyn”. Before those it was “Ex Machina” and “Unbroken”. Every time my reaction is, “Oh, him again.”
Last evening I downloaded “A Futile and Stupid Gesture” to watch on my tablet. I recognized many of the main actors, but I couldn’t place who was playing Henry Beard - it was only in the end credits that I found out - Domhnall Gleeson (in a dark wig and glasses). Geez, I can’t get away from this guy. I’m planning on catching “Black Panther” this weekend, and I’m sure he’ll sneak in there somehow…
I mean, he’s fine, but isn’t there anyone else available? I have a wee issue with children of successful actors getting careers, and I also have a wee issue with the pathological obsession with casting actors from “over the pond” to play Americans (I guess all of the American actors were busy, yah?)
Anywho, asking the SDMB, do you have any actors or actresses who seem to show up in EVERYTHING you see?
I was prepared to say that I had never seen him in anything, but I recently binge watched “Catastrophe” and see he was “Dan” in 2 episodes, though I don’t remember him or that character at all.
Too late to edit — at least there is one good thing about his omnipresence: I figured out how to pronounce his name! (It’s basically “DON-all” isn’t it??).
Coincidentally was looking up something unrelated to anything you could imagine (vintage life rafts) and a Domhnall Gleeson movie frame dominated the search results.
I’d recommend “A Futile and Stupid Gesture” for anyone who grew up in the States in the late 60s… National Lampoon was pivotal in my radicalization. Gleeson’s Henry Beard is played so low key that he’s almost scenery (Will Forte and Martin Mull, both playing Doug kenney, make up for him).
